Uncharted™ 4 Multiplayer_20151203181904

Last couple of months have brought good news to the much beleaguered Uncharted movie.  First announcing the project was not dead, as most people had thought once it was quietly pulled from Sony’s release schedule, and now we get news the project has a new director and has been put on the “fast track”.

Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures has set Shawn Levy to direct Uncharted‘s jump from home game console, to movie screen.   Levy is best known for Night at the Museum Franchise, Reel Steel, Date Night and, most recently, episodes of the breakout hit, Stranger Things, and the upcoming movie, Arrival.

The next question is when will the movie release?  Since casting hasn’t even started, we’ve got a ways to go, I image any time in 2017 is right out.  Seeing how it’s the end of the year, traditionally a time where very little happens in Hollywood, I’m going to guess second half of 2018 for a release date.  That would line up with the “fast track” Sony Pictures mentioned.

Uncharted is a video game franchise that follows the adventures of Nathan Drake.  Think a male Tomb Raider, he hunts treasures, kills the bad guys, and has fun doing it.  The fourth, and final, game in the franchise, Uncharted: A Thief’s End, released earlier in 2016.
