NETFLIX: What Is Arriving and Leaving AUGUST 2017

August. August brings to mind back-to-school shopping and prep. So why are we talking about August Netflix shows already? Oh, because NEXT WEEK is August! Where did the summer go? Thankfully, I’m out of the constant school-centric life, but I have many friends (and a husband) that teach and I am constantly bombarded with summer-extending pleas. These pleas make this Netflix list both a blessing and a curse – how do you spend the Summer you have left? Binge shows that are leaving? Binge shows that are arriving? Or economize your time and pace yourself? Whatever you choose in the...

Jessica Williams is THE INCREDIBLE JESSICA JAMES in Netflix Official Trailer

Jessica Williams is busting out of her hilarious persona from The Daily Show and into the hilarious persona of The Incredible Jessica James.  Netflix released the official trailer for the film on Friday.  RELATED:  Netflix’s GLOW Season 1 Review: Fun, Ferocious and a Testament to Female Power Chris O’Dowd stars opposite Williams.  James is a 25 year-old woman going through a ‘transitional phase’.  That phase looks pretty funny and charming as Williams literally dances all over the screen.  At first glance The Incredible Jessica James looks to be a pretty standard romantic comedy.  But, this protagonist is a confident...

THE PUNISHER To Be Unlike Any Other Marvel Show on Netflix

The next big Marvel series out of Netflix is the ‘big one,’ the Avengers-like crossover we’ve all wanted since the four series were initially announced. That crossover series, The Defenders, hits our TV screens in August. Currently, the second season of Jessica Jones is filming and the second season of Luke Cage goes into production soon, so we should see those two shows all ready for next year.   RELATED: Our First Look at the Assembled Cast for The Punisher However, there’s one other property we should mention here — The Punisher, starring Jon Bernthal. This series is potentially...

Netflix’s GLOW Season One Review: Fun, Ferocious and a Testament to Female Power

Are you a fan of the past? Seemingly simpler times, where technology didn’t rule the roost? Well, so is Netflix. The streaming giant has capitalized on the nostalgia genre (I’m dubbing it as such). More specifically, the 1980s. See Exhibits A and B: Stranger Things and the recent Wet Hot American Summer reboot. Netflix also dropped another blast from the past this month: GLOW. Loosely based off a female wrestling TV show of the same name, GLOW follows a group of  ’80’s female wrestlers in Los Angeles and the process of getting said TV show on its feet. DISCLAIMER: This is not a spoiler-free review....

Netflix’s THE INCREDIBLE JESSICA JAMES Teaser is Here and She Looks Fun

Netflix is launching another original film, The Incredible Jessica James, and it looks pretty delightful.  It’s written and directed by Jim Strouse who wrote and directed People Places Things, which I personally loved.  Jessica Williams stars.  She is best known for a very successful four year stint on The Daily Show as a correspondent, her role in Girls and assorted films.  Now she takes the lead, and she’s taking it in stride. The teaser focuses on Williams’ character in her daily life.  She’s weird and outspoken and I like weird and outspoken.  She quickly shuts down a Tinder date totally based...

NETFLIX: What Is Arriving and Leaving JULY 2017

The summer solstice just passed which means the end of June is nigh! That means, the new list for Netflix‘s comings and goings is close at hand. So close, in fact, I can hold it in my hand! On my phone! On this page! Yes! I’m going to pull a Kanye, though – Imma let you read them, but first, let me tell you about a few we are excited about: 1. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Do me a favor and pull out the Reese’s Pieces and plop your kid down for some clean, kid-friendly, 80s scifi. This is a...

Netflix FYSee: BOJACK HORSEMAN Panel Talks Initial Reviews, Therapy and Season 4

What’s better than a talking horse? A washed up, former “Hollywood star” talking horse, that’s what. Netflix’s Bojack Horseman has both of those things and so much more. I had the pleasure of getting the skinny on the streaming service’s critical darling at Netflix’s FYSee event. Now, what does “FYSee” mean, you ask? Netflix is holding special events for each of their original programming that aired within the Emmy’s televised year. Think “For Your Consideration.” Viewers got the full immersive experience – intricate displays for their shows containing props/costumes and fun opportunities for photo ops. They even played music from their respective...

As part of their ongoing Emmy campaign, Netflix held a panel for A Series of Unfortunate Events, at their FYSee Space in Beverly Hills, with executive producer and director Barry Sonnenfeld, and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Alfre Woodard and K. Todd Freeman. Based on the book series of the same name by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), A Series of Unfortunate Events covers the sad tale of the Beaudelaire orphans, as they are pursued by the rotten Count Olaf, who’s out to steal their fortune. Woodard described the tone of the books, which work for kids and adults. “It...

Netflix To Release Three Marvel Series Next Year

The release schedule for Netflix’s Marvel series, thus far, has been two a year. Starting in 2015 with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, we’ve seen two series released a year, bring both Luke Cage and Iron Fist into the hero mix as well. However, though we’ve heard before that Netflix was considering moving to three Marvel series releases a year, it now appears next year, 2018, is definitely the year that this little miracle happens. In fact, it’s been all but confirmed that we could get three series this year, with The Punisher possibly being released in November. As we said,...
