Spring Break is over, the kids are back in school for the last two months (or so) of school, and the busy schedule between sports practices and games and dance recitals is just ramping up to an even more fun filled weekly carpool juggling task! However you spend your April, be sure to schedule in some much needed downtime. Before I share with you the full list of what is coming and going on Netflix this April, let me present you with a few options to fill that downtime. If you’d like to keep to something educational for the kiddos, I’ve got you covered. If all you can do is two hours near midnight on Saturday night, I’ll provide the entertainment if you provide the wine.
The Magic School Bus Rides Again: Season 2
Starting off with the kids, a little educational animation is always a good and safe choice. The Magic School Bus Rides Again is back with a second season! Ms. Valerie Frizzle’s younger sister, Ms. Fiona Felicity Frizzle (Kate McKinnon) now teaches at Walkerville Elementary and it is her job to take the children on their fantastical field trips. The second season is sure to be just as exciting as the first. Watch a clip above from Season 1, Episode 9, “Space Mission: Selfie”, and catch the new season on Netflix starting Friday, April 13th.

Bill Nye: Science Guy
Continuing the educational theme, why not sit the kids down with Bill Nye, the Science Guy? Or just relive your own childhood with Bill Nye and his science lessons! Yes, everyone’s favorite classroom video time is returning to Netflix! Nye breaks down the big science lessons for younger viewers and makes learning about volcanoes and earthquakes and the basics of flight fun. There are five seasons of science and no tests – what more could one ask for? Bill Nye, the Science Guy drops on Friday, April 27th.

The Iron Giant
Skipping the educational, but keeping in with the kids (and those still kids at heart), we can’t recommend The Iron Giant enough. Set in the 1950s, at the start of the Cold War, a robot from space crash lands on earth and a young boy (voiced by Eli Marienthal) discovers him and befriends him (as happens). The robot, voiced by Vin Diesel (one of his very first roles), becomes the target of the US government, which seeks to destroy it just because it has the potential for destruction. Be warned, the movie, Brad Bird‘s directorial debut, is a bit of a tear jerker, though. The story of a boy and his friend comes to Netflix on Sunday, April 1st.

Aggretsuko: Season 1
Aggretsuko isn’t really for the children. This Japanese animated series follows Aggretsuko (a shortened form of Aggressive Retsuko), a red panda in her mid-twenties just trying to survive the corporate world. Her coping mechanism for the stress? Death metal karaoke. That is hard core. Brought to life by Yeti for Sanrio, Aggretsuko is a short-form anime series that is sure to resonate with at least some part of you. Watch the trailer above* and find Aggretsuko on Netflix on Friday, April 20th.
* NOTE: The above trailer is in Japanese with English subtitles, but the series on Netflix will be English dubbed.

Lost in Space: Season 1
The surprise series reboot of Lost in Space lands on Netflix on Friday, April 13th. The original television show aired in the 60s, then was jump-started in comic book form and became a film in the 90s. Did you know that the original series was based on the novel The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss? The new series on Netflix stars Mina Sundwall, Molly Parker, Toby Stephens, Parker Posey, Max Jenkins, Taylor Russell, and Ignacio Serricchio. The teaser is above and the description is below. The entire first season drops on Friday, April 13th.
Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The charismatic Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but charming Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) is a highly-skilled, blue collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.
