I am always my happiest when I can talk about Resident Evil. Games, movies, books – you name it, I love it. So, of course, I have been combing over these first-look images for Sony Pictures Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. While we only got three photos, I am already more impressed with this film than any of the other ones in the franchise. While they had their good moments, they strayed too far from the source material for my liking. And it isn’t like the Resident Evil games are skimping on lore.
The first image gives us a look at Kaya Scodelario and Avan Jogia‘s Claire and Leon as they venture into a newly zombie-infected Raccoon City. The next photo unveils a look at Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper), Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen) and Brad Vickers (Nathan Dales) decked out in their STARS uniforms at Spencer Mansion. The final image and maybe my favorite, is of Lisa Trevor (Marina Mazepa). This is a character from the original game that was one of Umbrella’s most gruesome test subjects.

I am obsessed with how close these guys look to their source material without feeling overly cartoony. We aren’t sure if the events of Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2 will be combined within the film, or we are going to see Chris and Jill’s story in the beginning and then cut to the events of Leon and Claire in the second half. But regardless, I am beyond excited at the chance to get to experience this story for a second time.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be directed by Johannes Roberts, who has shared that he wants to stick close to the source material for this one and we couldn’t agree more. Hopefully, between this new film and Netflix’s Resident Evil project, we will see the franchise breakthrough onto the big and little screens again. They have always done well in animated form, but die-hard fans like myself have been just waiting for the chance to see a more horror-based full-length film.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is set to hit theaters on November 24, 2021. We’ve included the first-look images below! What do you think of them? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
