Okay…okay… If you’ve been paying attention, then you already know what’s about to go down on The Walking Dead.  The most obvious being Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) is dying.  Yes, he will die. No one is immune to a walker bite.  A few trailers have been released in the past couple of weeks reminding us of Carl’s impending death.  There are other clues in the trailers that indicate we might be in for a wild time. Here are five things to watch for in the remaining eight episodes of The Walking Dead.

The Destruction of the Scavengers

The Scavengers aren’t really fighting in this war.  They have taken the best deal for their community to remain safe.  That deal came from Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).  Recently Rick (Andrew Lincoln) offered a counter deal and it appeared that Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) was on his side again.  The deal was off the table when it appeared that Rick’s ace in the deck was gone. The Saviors got out of his trap and Rick lost the Scavengers again.

In the latest trailers, there is footage of Simon (Steven Ogg) in the junkyard, Jadis crying on top of a garbage heap and Michonne (Danai Gurira) climbing onto of a garbage heap from walkers that are dressed like the Scavengers.  It’s pretty much a given that the Scavengers have made their final deal with the Saviors.   Rick is forgiving, but Negan…not so much.  He will want to make an example of those who betray him.

Oceanside joins Rick

Why else would they even bring back Oceanside?  Let’s back up a little, Oceanside is made up of mostly women.  The men of their community were killed by the Saviors.  So of course there will be some women who want revenge.  The only thing that kept Oceanside from joining the fight was their leader Natania (Deborah May). She forbid the community from getting involved before the fight began.

At the end of the mid-season finale, Enid (Katelyn Nacon) shot Natania, supposedly killing her.  My first thought about this is, why would Oceanside join if Enid killed their leader?   Enid eventually makes it to the Hilltop. Aaron (Ross Marquand) is seen walking with Cyndie (Sydney Park) in Oceanside and then hugging Enid tightly.  Do the Oceansiders hold Aaron hostage while a deal is made? What is really going on here?

Carol and Morgan save Ezekiel

There’s no way Carol would allow Ezekiel (Khary Peyton) to be hurt by the Saviors. So of course she is going to save him. The trailers show Nabila (Nadine Marissa) telling Carol (Melissa McBride) that the Saviors don’t stand a chance against her. And Morgan (Lennie James) saying they can take them one by one.  There’s gunfire in the auditorium, so Gavin (Jayson Warner Smith) may not make it out alive.  Knowing Morgan and Carol, it will be a short battle, but something happens that will make Morgan leave.

Remember that Morgan almost lost his marbles last season when the Saviors killed Benjamin.  Fans should be watching Morgan’s story closely.  James is leaving TWD for Fear The Walking Dead.  And recently, the producers revealed that Fear the Walking Dead will go through a major time jump that will catch up the sister show with the original series.  What could possibly happen that would make Morgan leave for greener pastures?

Dwight’s Loyalty

The thing with Dwight (Austin Amelio) is that he’s done some despicable things.  He killed Tara’s (Alanna Masterson) girlfriend.  In his defense, he wasn’t aiming for her, but still.  Then, the Saviors captured Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Dwight tortured him.  To make things worse, he also stole his bike and his wing vest.  Yeah! THE VEST!   Dwight appeared to be just following Negan’s orders.  But something changed after his girlfriend (and Negan’s wife) left the Sanctuary.

Dwight realized that he was not okay with living under Negan’s rule.  The only thing he could do about it was switch sides. Dwight was Rick’s eyes and ears in the Sanctuary. That helped Rick come up with his plan of attack.  The plan was working until Tara and Daryl went rogue. Dwight had to reveal his treachery and help the Alexandrians escape Negan’s latest attack.  So now he’s in the sewer with the enemy.

Dwight has proven to be trustworthy, but Daryl and Tara haven’t fully forgiven him. Tara is on the edge of doing something really drastic. In the trailers, she holds a gun to Dwight’s head.  I don’t think she will kill him. Tara is not like that.  She is angry though, so she will say some very hurtful things to him.  Dwight is also seen running away and eventually at the Sanctuary. So that makes me think, word of Dwight’s disloyalty hasn’t reached Negan yet.  Dwight goes back to the Saviors.  Does he continue his mission to take down Negan?  Will he find others who want the same thing?  Or will Dwight rejoin Negan?

Rick vs. Negan

We’ve seen this showdown before.  This time is different because of  Carl’s death.  How will Negan take the news about Carl?  He was very fond of Carl; he even wanted to take Carl under his wing after the war.   Or…maybe Negan really doesn’t care.  He will continue to try to take down Rick and restore his order.

In the trailers Carl tells Rick he was living the right way when he laid his gun down.  Can Carl’s words win the war for Rick? And if it does, will the message give Rick enough faith to be merciful with Negan and the Saviors?  Or will everyone die?   This will set the tone for Rick’s story from here on out.  Rick has literally given all that he has to the safety of the community.  Will killing the Saviors be worth the cost that Rick has already paid?
