Things got a little out of hand on Fear the Walking Dead. It’s time to call in the big guns. In “Sanctuary,” Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christina Evangelista) must face the demons of the past to move forward to a brighter future. The last time we saw Dwight and Sherry, they had just buried their son Finch. Dwight decided they should also bury their relationship and he left for home. Sherry stayed at PADRE and joined Daniel’s (Rubén Blades) parent army.
Dwight made it back to his old home in Virginia and it’s occupied by a man named Jay (Jack Mikesell). Jay is diabetic and says he was robbed. The guys took his insulin and are held up at the Sanctuary. Dwight is pretty sure Jay is messing with him. He seriously thinks that Jay knows who he is and what he’s done in life. But Jay knows nothing. He asks Dwight to help him get his medicine back.At first, Dwight refuses to go back into the Sanctuary. But then Jay poses the questions, what are they doing if they can’t help others. Dwight changes his mind and tells Jay to wait for him at his house.
Dwight has flashes of the past including the day Daryl (Norman Reedus) let him go. On that day, Daryl told him to leave and not come back until he made it right. Dwight finds the insulin, but gets spotted near the furnace. A man holds a gun to Dwight’s head, saying he stole from them. they can’t let him go because an example has to be made. Dwight is able to get away by throwing his captor into the fire. The man’s friends show up, hearing the screams from the furnace. They shoot Dwight in his shoulder, but he runs before they can shoot again.

Dwight gets back to the house, but Jay is dead. He kills Jay’s corpse and says to Daryl that he tried to make it right. He says Daryl should have killed him when he had the chance. Dwight passes out as a car arrives. Sherry, June (Jenna Elfman) and Dove (Jayla Walton) searched for him to take him back to PADRE. Sherry patches up Dwight’s wound with June supervising. June lost a finger and can’t do everything she used to. They update him about Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman) and Madison’s (Kim Dickens) conflict and the fact that Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) is alive. Dwight says he can’t help, but June and Sherry know that he can. He trained all of them to fight. Dwight says he wasn’t able to help his son. Every time he tries to make something right, someone gets hurt.
Dwight tells them about Jay and how he got shot. He says the best thing to do for PADRE is to leave him there. Sherry argues that something good can come from something bad. She’s fighting for PADRE to honor their son Finch. Dwight says he can’t go back there. He will honor their son his own way. He’s not going back because he doesn’t care about the kids. Dwight says he can’t go back because he does care about them.
The next morning, Sherry and June prepare to leave and discover that Dove is missing. She returns in the truck, but she’s been shot and the bullet is still in her side. Dove says she ran into some guys who tried to steal her truck. They said they were looking for someone who burned their friends. June says they need medical supplies and get the bullet out before Dove goes into shock. The gang from the Sanctuary show up and they’re not surprised the girl is with Dwight. Their leader (Alex Morf) apologizes for shooting Dove and offers to help by giving them medical supplies to help her. In return, they want Dwight. Dwight is ready to give up, but Sherry starts shooting at the guys. The shooting attracts walkers, so the new Sanctuary gang have to retreat.

Sherry decides that they will take Dove to the Sanctuary and remove the bullet. The Sanctuary is 20 miles away and the gang is on foot. They have a good head start and should be in and out before they gang catches up. When they get there, some of the gang members are still in the place and shoot at the group. Sherry takes them out and they move Dove to the medical room.
June has everything she needs to talk Sherry through the process. Sherry starts having flash backs about her time at the Sanctuary, just like Dwight. After the numb the area, June tells Dwight to remove the bullet. Dove starts to protest, saying Dwight couldn’t even save his son. They try to calm her down, but the building starts shaking. The gun fire attracted walkers surrounding the Sanctuary. June says they can’t extract the bullet because of the instability.
Dwight decides to clear out the walkers and Sherry follows him. Dwight goes to his old room to get the weapons and supplies he needs. Sherry accuses him of going out to not come back. Dwight thinks fate brought him back to the Sanctuary. He thinks nothing good can come of any of what he’s been through. Sherry takes his gun and locks him in his room.

Dove asks June why she won’t take out the bullet herself. June is afraid that she will kill the kids if she provides them with care. She tells Dove about her daughter Rose. Rose died of pneumonia. It seems like none of the adults could save their own kids. Dove says PADRE was right. None of them can protect the kids. She admits that she was trying to run away from them because they can’t protect her.
Sherry walks out to the courtyard and starts shooting walkers. Some of the walkers have metal melted onto their heads, so she can’t kill them all. June radios Sherry. Sherry tells her what she did and makes June promise that she will take Dwight back to PADRE. The walkers in the courtyard surround her, and push against a fence behind her. The fence falls on top of Sherry, trapping her. Dwight screams for Sherry. He can’t get out and starts hitting the wall. June arrives and lets him out. He runs to the courtyard and saves Sherry. When she gets out from under the fence, Dwight starts arguing with Sherry about her intentions.
When June gets back to the medical room, Dove is trying to get the bullet out for herself. She doesn’t think any of the adults can save her. Dove collapses from her wound. June radios the others, letting them know what happened. The gang shows up, starts shooting at Dwight and Sherry, and taking out the walkers. The walkers follow the gang inside the Sanctuary.

Dwight blocked the door, but it won’t hold for long. June grabs all of the medical supplies she can carry, while Dwight picks up Dove. The building starts to collapse as they try to escape. The gang is overrun by walkers and the roof starts to fall in. The gang leader grabs Dwight and takes him to the furnace, where his dead friend is trapped. He opens the door and the walker goes after the gang leader instead of Dwight. The furnace fire is out, so Dwight leads the others inside to escape the walkers and the collapsing building.
Once inside, he suggests they remove the bullet from Dove’s abdomen. He encourages June to do the procedure herself. He says Sherry is right. Something good can come from something bad. That’s why they are there. They needed each other to see it. Dove and Sherry also express their confidence in June’s abilities.
After the procedure, Dwight and Sherry open the furnace doors. The roof completely caved in, killing or trapping a lot of walkers. Dove is going to be okay. Sherry sees a finch perched nearby. They take it as a sign that they will all be okay now. June gets the truck and they ask Dwight if he will return. He agrees and says he never should have left. He wants to turn PADRE into what it’s supposed to be. Dwight carved a finger for June. He says the offer to be a part of their family still stands. He offers it to Dove as well, and tells her to call him Dwight. Dove says her name is Odessa now. They decide to go, leaving the past behind once and for all.
