Another Big Name on The Call Sheet

Season 2 of Netflix’s runaway hit Wednesday is adding more big names to a call sheet, that already includes Steve Buscemi. Variety is reporting that none other than Thandiwe Newton will join the cast of the Jenna Ortega-led show about a teenage Wednesday Addams and her adventures at Nevermore Academy which is (according to this adorable fake website) a school for “outcasts, freaks, and monsters”.

Thandiwe Newton has starred in films such as Beloved, The Pursuit of Happyness, and Crash. On TV she’s appeared in various roles on shows like Big Mouth and Human Resources but is best known for her Emmy Award-winning turn on HBO’s Westworld.

Details Are Scarce for Wednesday Season 2

Details for Wednesday Season 2 have been hard to come by. While it was leaked that Steve Buscemi will play the new principal of Nevermore, the specifics of Newton’s role are very much under wraps. Season 1 of the show ended with Wednesday solving a series of bloody murders while halting a plan to destroy Nevermore and its students. Perhaps, in the spirit of Harry Potter, Newton will play a new teacher on the faculty? It’s anyone’s guess as producers and Netflix are not talking.

Irish Spring

Wednesday, a darkly comic coming-of-age story, was an instant hit for Netflix when it premiered in 2022, bringing together creator Charles Addams’ classic character with the talents of rising star Jenna Ortega who managed to capture Wednesday’s murderous dead-pan perfectly. Production for Wednesday Season 2 was delayed due to the 2023 Writer’s and Actor’s strikes but is set to begin shooting this spring in Ireland. There’s no release date set yet, but sometime in 2025 seems likely.
