It really is the “Dawn” of a new age on The Gifted.  Polaris (Emma Dumont) gave birth last week to a baby girl she named Dawn.  The birth sparked a blackout in Washington D. C. and almost led Marcos (Sean Teale) to Polaris’ side.  Marcos and Caitlin (Amy Acker) are desperate to find Polaris and Andy (Percy Haynes White). But do Polaris and Andy want to be found?  And Reed’s (Stephen Moyer) dormant mutant powers are starting to emerge. What does this mean for the MU?

Sometime after 7/15, John (Blair Redford) was fighting in bars for money.  A woman named Evangeline (Erinn Ruth) approaches him with a proposition. She says she works with the X-Men and asks him to run the Mutant Underground in Atlanta. We all know how that turned out.

In the present, John checks in on Marcos.  Marcos is worried about Polaris and the baby. Marcos won’t give up though.  He even bought an expensive bottle of champagne for when the baby was born. But the hope is killing him.  Marcos knows the Inner Circle is up to something and Polaris and their baby are in the middle of it. He’s frustrated because he doesn’t know what it is.  John says he knows someone who may be able to help them.

Reeva (Grace Byers) tells the Frosts (Skyler Samuels) that the blackout is causing too much attention. They convinced the city that it was a lightning strike, but Reeva wants to eliminate all witnesses. Esme says they have no one to worry about. Her sisters call her soft and blame Esme’s time with Mutant Underground. Reeva doesn’t care. She send the Frosts to take care of the guard and the manager who saw them at the warehouse.

Last week, Clarice (Jamie Chung) and John were helping a girl, Christina (Danube Hermosillo), find her sister Jasmine (Mia Clyburn).  Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Clarice tell Christina that they found her. Christina asks to go with them to get Jasmine, but it’s too dangerous.  Christina breaks a lamp trying to convince them. Lauren reminds her that they are in hiding and can’t draw attention to themselves.

Reeva conducts a training session with a sleepy Andy.  He has to break through three concrete walls, each stronger than the last. Reeva needs him to break through them all. The walls are made of the same materials as their next target.  Andy gets through the first two, but can’t get through the third because he’s thinking of Lauren. Reeva isn’t happy. She tells Sage (Hayley Lovitt) to get Fade (Jeff Daniel Phillips) to watch Andy.

Evangeline isn’t happy to see John, Marcos and Caitlin. She’s now a mutant rights lawyer, but if Sentinel Services make a connection between her and the MU, they will come for her.  John tells her that they had a run in with a group from the Hellfire Club. They give her the flash drive with the bank records and ask her to look at them. Caitlin mentions that the group is the Inner Circle and they took her son.  Evangeline’s ears perk up with mention of the Inner Circle. She’s surprised that they were able to get away with any information about the Inner Circle without anyone getting killed.

Reeva talks to Andy along to find out why he wasn’t able to break through the third wall.  She says he was supposed to be able to break through. If he can’t perform, their operation is in danger. Andy says he’s having an off day.  She tells him about her off day when her best friend died at the hands of the Purifiers.  She says on their off days, their powers tell the truth. Reeva asks if there anything Andy needs to tell her. Andy says no and promises not to fail again.

She says there aren’t enough people left in the Mutant Underground.  But she knows of a mutant separatist named Erg. he lives in the tunnels under DC. She sends John to find him. She says Reeva is ruthless and she will kill his friends before letting them leave her. That means they may have to kill their friends to stop them. She apologizes for giving him hope.

Reeva discusses Andy’s situation with the Frosts. She’s worried about Andy’s behavior saying his family connection is stronger than they thought.  Esme reminds him that he is a Von Strucker, he is there because of his family. Reeva talks to Andy, giving him another chance to tell Reeva what his problem is.  He lies and tells her that he trusts them. She says he has doubt and secrets and that’s okay, but he shouldn’t lie about it.  Andy says he’s not lying about anything. Reeva takes a deep breath, preparing to use her deathly voice on Andy. Andy speaks up. He tells Reeva that his mom has been messaging him on the online game that he plays, but he hasn’t answered. He also tells her that he tried to call Lauren, just to hear her voice.  And he tells her about the dreams. Reeva tells him to use his fear in his power. They are building a home for mutants, including Lauren. She asks him to be strong.

Thoughts

There’s an obvious dream connection between Andy and Lauren. I wonder how long it will take them to figure it out and start communicating.

Of course the baby gets sick. And Marcos will be the only one who can help her.  But how much will Reeva give in to help Polaris.

Will Esme continue to question Reeva’s actions? Someone needs to.  That’s something that could get interesting.

I’m really excited to see what Reed can do. And how it will change him.
