TWD producers have created content like this before; mini episodes they call ‘one-offs.’ Most of these one-offs were shorts that were only available on amc.com. And most of these mini episodes did not connect to the larger scale series like The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Now we have an anthology of new stories, in new locations, and new circumstances. But at least one of the stories is a backstory of the notorious TWD villain, Alpha.

Samantha Morton returns to tell Alpha’s backstory. Terry Crews, Olivia Munn, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Jesse T. Usher, Anthony Edwards, and Danny Ramirez also star in the series. From the trailer, we see Edwards is studying the dead. That sounds very much like what was happening on The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Posey and Bell appear to be a couple of regular women at the beginning of the apocalypse and how it impacts their lives. And the others look like they are just trying to survive the best ways they know how.

Check out the trailer below.

Tales of the Walking Dead premieres August 14 on AMC. The first two episodes will also be available on August 14 on AMC+.
