The Walking Dead Universe returns to San Diego Comic Con with a new show, Tales of the Walking Dead. The new series is an anthology of stories within the zombie apocalypse and features some familiar faces. This is the four spin-off series of the OG series, The Walking Dead. Season one will premiere this fall and we have a trailer.

Chris Hardwick moderated the panel consisting of Scott M. Gimple, Channing Powell, Michael Satrazemis, Terry Crews, Samantha Morton, and Danny Ramirez

Tales of the Walking Dead features six new stories, starring some incredible actors. And the return of Alpha. Gimple stated that the development of the series was driven by fan questions about the TWD universe. he sees it as an opportunity to invent ‘brand new things.’

Powell called the six episodes, ‘little movies.’ You’ll be caught up the moment you come in,” Powell said. She also stated that she wanted to consider stories that ‘might give Scott a heart attack.’ “Every episode is new. There’s a new director, we have different sets, different actors, and entirely different characters and settings.”

Morton was excited to return to the role of Alpha. In the series, her name is Dee. “When I got the call that this was gonna happen potentially, I was, oh my god, I was more than excited,” Morton said. “Because I’m 45 years old and as an actress and a woman, the roles kind of change in television and film. You’re making the tea or you’re the wife, they can be pretty rubbish. And so for me, this was the role of a lifetime.”

As for Dee’s story, Morton says viewers won’t know what to expect. The difference between the flashbacks in The Walking Dead and this story is that, those flashbacks were Lydia’s. Morton said, “we don’t know if they were true or not… This is Dee’s perspective.”

This is not Ramirez’s first TWD role. He the character Javier on the TWD Tale Tell game before the character was recast. He said what drew him to the show was how human and how small the stories are.

Crews is a big fan of The Walking Dead and made sure to hug every cast member at SDCC. “I cannot tell you how happy I am to be a part of this universe,” Crews added,  “and I promise you are going to love what we put down.”  He also seems to be the most excited about joining the TWD Universe, ripping open his shirt during the panel. He also gave a shout out to Tyrese on The Walking Dead.

Tales of the Walking Dead also stars Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Jesse T. Usher, Olivia Munn and Anthony Edwards.

Tales of the Walking Dead premieres August 14 on AMC. The first two episodes will also be available on August 14 on AMC+.
