Walmart’s Super Bowl spot will certainly excite many science fiction movie fans. But it will also beg the question, “Great Scott! How much did this commercial cost?!?” There are so many famous properties in this commercial, the price tag must have been enormous!

That aside, it’s super fun. There are two spots, one being the extended version which is the one to watch. Last year, Walmart had “famous cars” showing up to do curb side pick up at the store. This year, it’s “famous visitors” with their very famous vehicles, mostly space ships.

The commercial showcases characters/vehicles ranging from Star Trek to Star Wars and everything in between. My favorite was seeing Flash Gordon’s Sam Jones “flying blind” on a rocket cycle. You even hear Prince Vultan’s famous “Dive” scream from the film and see the Hawk Men. However the minuscule disappointment here is that it’s not Brian Blessed but props to the actor that landed that awesome part.

By far the funniest part of the segment is when the aliens from Mars Attacks! show up. Definitely check out the extended cut for that scene. It’s super funny and I actually thought the Martians may end up attacking at some point.

The spot even gets some serious science fiction in when the aliens from Arrival show up and pick up an item that, if you’ve seen the film, will make you chuckle.
