The Batman is shaping up to be epic.   The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell are the latest big names in talks to join the cast of The Batman

Serkis is being sought to play Alfred Pennyworth.  He has worked with director Matt Reeves previously in two Planet of the Apes films.  No CGI for Serkis this time around.  Serkis joins a long list of talented actors who have played the DC’s favorite butler.  THR describes Alfred as “the sidekick responsible for keeping Batman alive for decades, being equally versed in manners of upper-class society and field medic techniques.”

Farrell just might be playing The Penguin, which is an interesting choice. Maybe because of the image of the Penguin that I have is from those who previously played the part.  Many people remember Burgess Meredith as the original live action Penguin.  Danny DeVito brought the Penguin to life on the big screen with a much darker version.  Robin Lord Taylor played a younger version of Penguin most recently in the Gotham television series.  Farrell strikes me as more of a Two-Face type of guy.  But I’m sure he’ll be just as ruthless and psychotic in any role.

The Batman starts Robert Pattison as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.  It seems to me that the cards are being stacked against Batman.  Catwoman, The Riddler, and The Penguin.  Who’s next?

The Batman is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
