Marvel is keeping Scott Derrickson! That is according to a new report by THR. The director (and co-writer) who brought Doctor Strange to life will apparently be returning to the sequel as well in the director’s chair. While Marvel hasn’t officially released a comment, the site is sure of the negotiation being final.

According to the report, Derrickson has only been confirmed to direct and the search for a screenwriter has begun. It’s unclear if he’ll also be co-writing this script but we hope he does! Apparently they’re thinking the script will be written in 2019 with production beginning in 2020. And if everything’s on track, we could see the sequel in May of 2021. Benedict Cumberbatch would return with Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams likely to return as well.

We last saw Doctor Strange mentioning that they were in the “end game” phase in Avengers: Infinity War. While we imagine that he will be resurrected in Avengers: Endgame, it’s going to be an emotional and hard road to bring him, along with the other Avengers, back. After dealing with the massive effect that Thanos had on the universe, what sort of repercussions will Steven Strange be dealing with when he returns? I’m so curious to see what they do!

What do you think of Derrickson returning? Are you excited? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Marvel news. The Doctor Strange sequel currently doesn’t have a release date.
