One of the greatest action films has a spin-off releasing on May 24th. Mad Max: Fury Road blew audiences away with its practical effects and fast-paced action that barely let its foot off the pedal. It also introduced us to Furiosa (played by Charlize Theron), a road warrior in her own right on an important mission – bringing a warlord’s enslaved “brides” to her lush and beautiful home known as The Green Place.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga rewinds the clock to show us her past – how she was taken, how she became one of the fiercest fighters in the Wasteland, and how she got involved with Immortan Joe and his Citadel. Behind the wheel in this film, the titular character is one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood, Anya Taylor-Joy.

With two trailers and a few TV spots, we now have hints at what’s to come from Anya Taylor Joy and this film. And, we also now have seven things that we can’t wait to see in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Seeing the Green Place in Its Full Glory

When we see the Green Place for the first time, it’s a swampy ruin; filled with stilt walkers known as the Crow Fishers. This film will take us to when the area was thriving, owing to its namesake. The all-women encampment society built up by the Vulvalini of Many Mothers that Furiosa fought so hard to return to. It will be interesting to see if we get a long look at the Green Place or if it’s just a quick set piece to get us back on Fury Road.

Furiosa’s Mother, Mary Jo Bassa

Speaking of the Vulvalini, we’ll get to spend some time with Mary Jo Bassa. We already know her fate before the film starts but in this film, we will see what Mary Jo Bassa does and how much that affects Furiosa. From the trailers, we can see that she’s an incredibly skilled shooter as Furiosa, herself, will become. It looks like we will witness her demise (that may be a tough watch). It will still be nice to see the character’s impact, no matter how short the time we spend with her.

Chris Hemsworth as Dementus

Chris Hemsworth wears a leather vest and pants with no shirt while sporting long hair and a beard as he stands in the desert for "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga."

The moment you watch the trailer you want to know everything about Chris Hemsworth’s character, Dementus. The prosthetic nose, the over-exaggerated voice, the chariot of motorcycles – Dementus is camp delight. Hemsworth has already proven his comedic chops in films like Ghostbusters (2016) and Thor: Love & Thunder so he will no doubt nail the character in this Aussie-driven action film. He looks the right amount between terrifying and goofy.

The Relationship Between Dementus and Immortan Joe

In the trailer, we see that Dementus and Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme) are aware of each other and potential enemies. Will it be something that developed long before Furiosa got involved with them? Will it come about because of Furiosa herself? There’s a lot of story potential with those two given how similar they are in nature. The relationship will prove fun regardless of how developed their enemy status is.

Learning More About Imperators

From the trailers, we learn we will meet Furiosa’s mentor who was briefly mentioned in Mad Max: Fury Road. Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke) seemingly develops a romantic relationship with Furiosa. We also quickly see that both of them are captured at one point by Dementus, which may also feed into her need for revenge. Not only for her home and her mother but also for the lover she came to know.

We’ll also likely get a look at how Imperators are chosen, and what their duties are when not driving for the Citadel. We may also find out if there is more than one Imperator at a time. It’s implied that Furiosa is the only one who took Jack’s place but we’ll see how things went before.

Going to Gas Town and the Bullet Farm

In Mad Max: Fury Road we glimpsed two strongholds allied with Immortan Joe. In the trailers, we see that Furiosa will escape from Gas Town – is Joe fighting with these two?

In the comics, Gas Town and Bullet Farm are managed by his allies after he took the Citadel by force. It will be interesting to see why a representative of Immortan is fighting against Gas Town. Will we also see the Thunderdome 2.0 hidden inside the walls?

It seems that the Bullet Farm will be at least a temporary home of Dementus, whether he’s welcome or not remains to be seen. Either way seeing them up close will be an added bonus.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Cameos

Director George Miller has previously hinted that “Max is lurking there in the background” so we may get a cameo from Tom Hardy as Max. We’ve also seen that Max’s car has been on the set but this could also indicate that his car will literally be in the background during the events of Furiosa. Some have also theorized that Charlize could return in some capacity, whether it’s a post-credit scene, a vision, or something else.

Regardless of whether our two leads from Fury Road are involved in the film, we are sure to see recurring characters, especially since we will also be going to the Citadel for a section of the film. Perhaps Joe’s sons, the Organic Mechanic, or we may see some of the same Wretched at the base of the stronghold.

There you have it, seven (of many) things we can’t wait to see. What are you most looking forward to seeing in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga? The Anya Taylor Joy driven film premieres at the Cannes Film Festival before launching into US theaters on May 24th.
