Hulu returns to Castle Rock next month as we get the first teaser for season 2.  Lizzy Caplan stars as Annie Wilkes and it appears the town is having a strange affect on Stephen King‘s famous nurse.

Annie Wilkes was first introduced to the world in King’s novel Misery.  Annie nurses her favorite author Paul Sheldon back to health after a car accident, but then decides to never let him go.  Kathy Bates portrayed the former nurse and obsessed fan in the 1990 film.

In season 2, Caplan plays a younger Annie.  She appears to be some what normal, but her daughter Joy (Elsie Fisher) may think otherwise. In the trailer, Annie is seeing things.  She takes medication to keep her cool, but the hallucinations continue.   Annie assures Joy that everything she does is to protect her. Protect her from what?

We also get a glimpse of Pop Merrill (Tim Robbins), the patriarch of the Merrill crime family.  Another member of this family is John “Ace” Merrill (Paul Sparks), one of the bullies from Stand By Me.   Robbins is a return vet of the Stephen King universe, previously playing the lead in The Shawshank Redemption.

Barkhad Abdi, and Yusra Warsama also star as brother and sister, though it’s not clear how they are connected to Annie.  Warsama appears to work in the same hospital as Annie, so that might be a connection.  According to Entertainment Weekly, Abdi’s character is trying to start a Somali community center in Jerusalem’s Lot.

I’m super excited about this season. Annie Wilkes is one of the more interesting characters from the King universe and Caplan is an amazing actor. I can’t wait to see her interpretation of Annie.  Watch the teaser below.

Synopsis: A feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes, Stephen King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock.

Castle Rock season 2 premieres October 23, 2019 on Hulu.
