Captain on the bridge! Entertainment Weekly debuted our first look at Jason Isaacs in Star Trek: Discovery. He is set to play a Starfleet captain, one we’re not sure how long we’ll stay with.

Isaacs is set to play Captain Gabriel Lorca of U.S.S. Discovery. We don’t know much about his character at the moment other than he’s “a steely Federation Starship Captain who’s considered a brilliant military tactician.” Which leaves room for speculation on his role in the show. What we do know is that the show is called Discovery, so it will focus on the crew of that ship. We also know the show will not focus on Isaacs, a first for Star Trek. So what does this mean?

One guess may be that we will not be with Captain Lorca long. After all, this show focuses on First Officer Michael Burnham, played by Sonequa Martin-Green. One of our first lines heard from the show is about Burnham getting her own command. There’s no guarantee that’s going to happen, however, it’s just a possibility.

In happier news, he looks pretty sweet in his captain’s chair! Another thing about that chair is that it’s on a bridge that wasn’t shown in the previous trailers. Which leads us to believe this is the first look at the Discovery bridge that we’ve seen. What was shown in the previous trailer was Captain Georgiou’s (Michelle Yeoh) ship, the Shenzhou.
