Happy news greets us this Monday morning! Warner Bros. Animation dropped an exciting announcement: the sequel to the 2014 breakout brick-based film has an official title! And it has a confirmed release date! The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is coming to theaters in 2019!

The announcement came in the form of a new movie poster featuring just the main title gorgeously rendered in LEGO bricks, almost identical to the original film’s logo, with the added 2 on the end and the subtitle floating below. Can we take a second to appreciate how realistic the LEGO bricks are that build this movie title? That is some amazing rendering!

The LEGO Movie 2 Details

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will be directed by Mike Mitchell (Trolls) and Trisha Gum (art director: Robot Chicken) with the original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller stepping aside to write the screenplay and help produce the film alongside Dan Lin (producer: IT, Aladdin). Additional writers include Raphael Bob-Waksberg (BoJack Horseman), Matt Fogel, and Michelle Morgan.

Main character Emmet Brickowski will once again be voiced by Chris Pratt, who is joined by his partner Wyldstyle, with Elizabeth Banks once more providing her voice. Superheroes Superman and Batman will return to the brick world with their original voices, Channing Tatum and Will Arnett, respectively. Joining the cast is Tiffany Haddish in an unannounced role.

The plot for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will explore how different children play with their toys, with both the dynamics of boys versus girls and older versus younger siblings taking center stage. With the end of the first film introducing Duplo blocks (a larger line of LEGO product for smaller hands) and Finn (Jadon Sand) being told by his father (Will Ferrell) to go play with his sister, The LEGO Movie 2 is set up to be a continuation of the original story. We will have to wait until February 8, 2019 to see how their imaginations combine (or collide) and what the impact will be for Bricksburg.
