I’m a ‘Ghostbusters’ fan. A big one. It’s my favorite movie of all time, and I tend to think I know everything about it.  Well, I don’t. 30 years after the iconic film premiered, a whole lot of information is popping up, to my extreme delight. In ‘Ghostbusters: An Oral History’, Entertainment Weekly gives us the story straight from the cast, director, and producers themselves.  Each person’s contribution becomes fascinatingly clear. It’s a little peak into the development of the script, production and the culture of Hollywood in 1984.  Especailly interesting for me was Dan Akroyd’s family history with the supernatural.’My great grandfather was an Edwardian spiritualist.’ said Akroyd ‘I just thought, “Let’s do a comedy ghost movie, but let’s base it on the real research.”‘

The article tells of collaboration, opportunity, trust, misunderstanding, brilliance, a family atmosphere, and a meeting of minds at the right place and the right time. It seems it’s such a magical and successful movie on screen because it was such a magical and successful process off screen. I’m going to watch it again right now.
