The site Birth.Movies.Death has a report out on Thor: Ragnarok today, spelling out a few different things.

First of all, the reason that Taika Waititi, director of Things We Do in the Shadows, is to bring some levity to what is shaping up to be an exceptionally dark film. As they say, he “was hired to balance out the grimness of the script” and that he will be joined “by another writer to help brighten the corners of Ragnarok while maintaining Yost’s apocalyptic vibe.”

Apparently, one of the things that is in consideration to bring some humor to the story is to include the Hulk where “The two heroes will be taking a cosmic road trip together, Hope and Crosby style.” Though Captain America: Civil War marks the first time we’re seeing a lot of the Avengers characters in one of the solo character films, seeing Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok would be the first time we’ve seen a major team-up in that way. Civil War, in a lot of ways, doesn’t seem to be shaping up to be a Captain America film, more like Avengers 2.5.

However, while seeing a Thor/Hulk team-up in Ragnarok would certainly be big news, that’s still not the biggest news out of this report.

According to BMD, Thor and Hulk will meet The Valkyries along their journey. The Valkyries, in Norse Mythology, and in the Marvel Universe, carry fallen warriors and gods to Valhalla after they die. It’s likely that Thor (and possibly Hulk) will likely come across the Valkyries while zipping around the realms of Asgard. But, according to the site, “the film might launch Marvel super heroine Valkyrie into the Cinematic Universe.”

Valkyrie, a.k.a. Brunnhilde, was first introduced in The Avengers comics where she was fighting The Enchantress, who would be a likely enemy to introduce into the film. Valkyrie has fought alongside the Defenders and has worked with Doctor Strange, making her a great character to starting bringing into the MCU, especially with the Sorcerer Supreme getting his own film next November.

The site goes on to caution that they are not quite sure how the character will be used in the film, only that they know “for sure is that Marvel thinks they’re going to cast some great women in this movie.”
