Another week, another quote-worthy Abbott Elementary episode. Season 3 Episode 10, “2 Ava 2 Fest,” blesses us with the second annual Ava Fest. If the third one isn’t titled “Ava Fest: Tokyo Drift,” what are we even doing here? Side note: Tariq continuing to fail upward is hysterical. His mayoral campaign is inevitable at this point. He needs to become a main character.

Anyway, I could see Janine returning to Abbott a mile away. While I’m glad she’s where her heart is, I wish the district storyline didn’t end so abruptly and would’ve lasted longer. That aside, this outing boasts plenty of fun dialogue and a few heartstring-tugging moments. It’s still Abbott Elementary, to a tee.

Below, I’ve compiled a list of quotes I loved from this week’s episode of Abbott Elementary. Class is in session!

2 Ava 2 Fest

AVA: “Ava Fest, on the other hand, is gonna be special. I just have to come up with a way to take it over the top, a way to make it unhinged.”

MELISSA: “Have you ever tried just being hinged?”

Ava Coleman (Janelle James) has never been “hinged,” and I take offense on her behalf (I kid, I kid). That said, Melissa’s (Lisa Ann Walter) question is entirely legitimate, even though I can’t imagine Ava Fest being anything but unhinged (in the best way).

SIMON: “I hope you don’t like hooks, girl, ’cause this party’s gonna be off one.”

Simon (Benjamin Norris) is such a great supporting character (as is the whole district office). He’s also a cutie patootie. This quote made me chuckle. I may have to incorporate it into my party verbiage.

GREGORY: “You said that you missed the dirt at Abbott, so I brought it to you. There are also seeds in there. It’s a polka-dot plant. It’s supposed to be a reminder to embrace the unexpected.”

“2 Ava 2 Fest” finally gives us more than a few Granine breadcrumbs — it blesses us with, at the very least, a sizable snack. Gregory’s (Tyler James Williams) gift for Janine (Quinta Brunson) is so adorably specific. He loves her, even if he won’t admit it to himself. It’s all in his actions. His love language, as a bona fide Goofball, is plants. My heart

A cluster of teachers and elementary school students stand in a gymnasium that's decorated for an open house with games, food stands, strobing lights, etc. They dance and cheer on Abbott Elementary Season 3 Episode 10, "2 Ava 2 Fest."

AVA: “I was dating Allen Iverson. A couple of his groupies were trying to get at me. I’m beating on them, and then Questlove walks by, and he says, ‘You have natural rhythm.’ A couple of weeks later, we started The Roots.”

I love the idea of Ava starting The Roots with Questlove and having this elaborate history with him. And she dated Allen Iverson! Ava needs to write a memoir.

BARBARA: “We have watched you steal, cut corners, lie pathologically, plot, prevaricate, palter, persist…”

As a writer and lover of alliteration, this Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) quote speaks to my word-loving soul. Sheryl Lee Ralph also knows how to squeeze every drop out of each syllable for dramatic effect. It’s glorious. She really hits those “p’s.”
