Sometimes, things get really weird on What We Do In The Shadows. In “Hybrid Creatures,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) discovers Laszlo’s (Matt Berry) latest and strangest experiments. Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) gives back to her community.

Laszlo is up to no good. He has been helping Guillermo transform into a vampire but the process is going slow. On the side, he’s experimenting with Guillermo’s DNA and the latest project is kind of gross. He combined the DNA with animals. It’s kind of like … no it’s exactly like the Island of Dr. Moreau. Guillermo is freaked out, especially when Laszlo tells him to kill the hybrid creatures.

Guillermo decides he can’t kill the creatures. He wants to find another solution so the creatures can stay alive. He’s not sure what that is and offers to take them to the park. Dog Guillermo speaks up, saying a trip to the park would be great. Guillermo faints when he realizes the creatures can talk.

When Guillermo wakes up, he’s still amazed that the creatures can talk. One of them starts calling him Daddy, so they all call him Daddy. Guillermo gets freaked out again. Doggy Guillermo says their elders told them of a prophecy of the One True Guillermo who saves them. Guillermo agrees to save them. Not all of the creatures are there. There’s one called Binky that has to be found first.

Laszlo finds Gizmo outside. Guillermo admits he’s trying to find another one of Laszlo’s abominations. Laszlo thinks he doesn’t have what it takes to kill the creatures, but Guillermo says he does. Laszlo leaves to take care of personal business. Guillermo finds Binky in the pond. Binky is a Guillermo-faced fish. It’s so awful.

Nadja teaches in What We Do In The Shadows

Nadja is trying to lift a hex. The best way she knows how to do that is to teach Little Antipaxan the necessary skills they need to be real New Yorkers. Nadja asked Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) to attend the first day so her class didn’t look empty. Now they keep coming back. Nandor is hoping to learn more about history. Colin Robinson says he used to take night classes to feed.

Nadja starts to doubt her teaching ability. She excuses herself to the hallway and tells production that she just wants to get rid of the hex. A human lady hears her and approaches Nadja. She says she is a witch and her name is Helen, the Magic Woman (Kerri Kenney-Silver). And she says she can lift the hex. Nadja is ready to go and tells the class that she has to leave. She appoints Nandor and Colin Robinson as their new teachers.

Helen gives Nadja a list of items that she needs to lift the hex. The list includes a chocolate glaze from a specific Dunkin’ Donuts shop. Meanwhile, Nandor takes over the class and starts talking about history. Colin Robinson disrupts his teachings and eventually takes over the class. He wants to be seen as the cool teacher. Plus, trying to be the cool teacher is a great way to drain people.

Nadja returns with the ingredients but gets the wrong donut. Helen isn’t happy and sends Nadja back out with a new list of required donuts. Nadja isn’t so sure Helen knows what she’s doing, but then again, Nadja doesn’t dabble in witchcraft. But the fact that she saw Helen pick up a stick and call it a wand is strange to Nadja.

Colin Robinson teaches the class on What We Do In The Shadows

Colin Robinson takes the class outside to teach about sound waves. The class wants to go inside, so Nandor takes them to a history museum. They find an exhibit that looks like Nandor. Nandor starts recognizing items that once belonged to him. This exhibit doesn’t just look like Nandor, it is about Nandor.

Nadja brings Helen more donuts, but from the wrong store. Helen pretends to be hurt because Nadja’s hex is too strong. She also requests more donuts. Nadja rushes out to get what Helen asks for. When she gets to the donut shop, she sees a flier with Helen’s picture on it. Helen was banned from the donut shop for harassing the employees.

Nadja confronts Helen. Helen breaks down and says she was driven from a place she thinks of as home. Nadja knows how that feels. She helps Helen by hypnotizing the donut staff to serve Helen like she’s a queen.

At the museum, the display makes fun of Nandor and his lifestyle from his past, upsetting the vampire. Nandor destroys the display. Later Colin Robinson gives Nandor a keychain that Nandor’s mom gave to him. Colin Robinson also shows Nandor a video of how he rearranged the museum display and changed the placard. Nandor thanks him, making Colin Robinson feel awkward.

Laszlo lines up the creatures and waits for Guillermo to kill them. Guillermo shoots the gun in the air after Laszlo leaves, saving the creatures. The next day, Guillermo takes the creatures to a retirement home to keep the elderly resident’s company. Except for Binky. Guillermo kept him in the pond because Binky is happy there.
