Morgan Jones is canon in The Walking Dead comics, but Fear the Walking Dead?  After the death of Carl Grimes on TWD, the powers that be are obviously changing things up. New details have emerged about the anticipated crossover of the original series to the sister series. Let’s just say, you should be excited!

The Walking Dead Universe was shook up last fall with the announcement of a crossover with Fear the Walking Dead.  The night of the TWD midseason finale, AMC announced that Lennie James, a.k.a. Morgan Jones would be the character crossing over to FTWD.  And that led to a lot of rumors and speculation about Morgan’s fate.  So here’s what we know.

Fear the Walking Dead season 3 ended in Tijuana. There was mention of the group heading to Houston, TX. And it appeared that a dam explosion separated Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) from her family.  So one can assume that the location of this group will remain in the south. But it’s possible they could move east and run into Morgan.

Season four has new showrunners.  Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, both previously wrote for Once Upon a Time, and Scott M. Gimple…fresh off his promotion as overseer of everything The Walking Dead.  Gimple took over TWD in season three and brought the show to the notoriety we see today.  As far as what we can expect, Chambliss told Entertainment Weekly

“Definitely bring some of the stuff we loved about the world that [Robert] Kirkman created in The Walking Dead. Walkers will have a big role. And there will be characters who are a little bit larger than life, because as we get deeper in the apocalypse, very often the people who survive and do well in the apocalypse are people who have out-sized personalities or have really interesting ways of living.

So those are some of the elements that we’re pushing broadly, and I think the thing that we’re also really excited about was just taking this cast of characters who have lived in the show for three years and putting them in a new location, a new setting, and putting them with some of the new characters we’re bringing into the show and seeing how the new characters affect the returning characters and vice versa.”

There could be a possible time jump.   Morgan has been in and out of the TWD story line since season one.  The times that he was absent from the story just isn’t enough time for him to travel south and back. But it is possible. James talked to Comicbook.com last month, saying his story line in FTWD would be a continuation of Morgan’s journey from TWD

“I can safely say that, in a weird way, it is both a continuation of that battle that Morgan’s having with himself and with the people around him, and it is still part of his journey to finding some kind of inner peace—but it’s not necessarily told in a straight line. As is typical—or becoming typical—with The Walking Dead, it is not as straightforward as any explanation that I’m allowed to give you would necessarily seem.”

Dickens, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Frank Dillane, and Colman Domingo all return according to the recently released photos from season 4.  No surprise there. What is surprising is the return of Luciana, played by Danay Garcia.  The last time we saw Luciana, she had left Nick (Dillane) and the ranch in search of a place where she was welcome.  Luciana has appeared in season four photos released earlier this week.  Notably absent is Ruben Blades who played Daniel Salazar.  Not much is being said about Daniel, but if Nick survived the dam explosion, Daniel should have too.

The new cast members have some familiar faces.  Maggie Grace (Lost) plays Althea. She has been pictured with Morgan in photos.  Her character is described someone who can thrive in the apocalypse world with a heavy arsenal.

Garret Dillahunt (Deadwood, The Gifted) plays John.  He is described as contradictory.  I’m not sure what that means, but he appears to be a loner and someone with great skill.

Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Gregg, Imaginary Mary) plays Naomi.  Naomi has shown up in photos with Madison. She is described as capable, but keeps people at a distance.

There’s so much more to learn about the changes coming to the Clark family.  Until then, AMC released the first teaser for season four of Fear the Walking Dead.

Fear the Walking Dead returns Sunday, April 15, following the season eight finale of The Walking Dead on AMC.
