Dragon Quest Heroes II will be out on April 25th for the PlayStation 4 and PC and yesterday Square Enix released the final video in their “Meet the Heroes” series. The series introduces players to the 15 Heroes that will be available in the game.

Our final Heroes are Alena, Kiryl, and Torneko, all from Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (aka Dragon Warrior IV). You will remember Tsarvena Alena and her faithful protector Kiryl from the Dragon Quest Heroes, but Torneko is a new addition.

Torneko Taloon is a merchant in DQIV so, as you can see from the trailer, he has a lot of different items at his disposal. His main weapon is a polearm called Astraea’s Abacus, but he can also damage enemies with dual crossbows, by charging through them or by blowing a trumpet to summon a charge.

Alena is the combo master, punching and kicking her way through hordes of monsters. She can do a considerable amount of damage and can cast a few powerful spells like the great ball of fire that you see in the trailer.

Kiryl is a support character who is also equipped with a polearm and can cast protection spells and buffs on allies. And in a hilarious moment, we can see him cast Thwack again and again and again without actually succeeding in casting the spell. Thwack is an instant-death spells with a very low probably of success, but once it hits, it kills enemies automatically. It’s nice to see Square Enix have a little fun with it.

What is especially exciting about this game is the reunion between Torneko, Meena, Maya, Alena and Kiryl. I was thrilled to see their lengthy history recognized in the trailer. It also gave me high hopes that we’ll see Ragnar if we get a Dragon Quest Heroes III game.

The Heroes

In case you missed some of the Hero introductions, here is a quick rundown.

Lazarel, Teresa, and Healix: Lazarel and Teresa, military cadets, are the main protagonists of the story. They are joined by their “slimekick” Healix as they go on a quest to defeat evil. Along the way they will meet up with the rest of Heroes.

Desdemona and Cesar: Desdemona is an envoy of the High King, and it looks like she will be the first Hero Lazarel and Teresa meet. Cesar is the Prince of Dunisia who eventually joins the team. Both of these characters originate from Dragon Quest II.

Maribel and Ruff: Both of these characters are from Dragon Quest VII. Not much is known about them at this point, but they are new additions to Dragon Quest Heroes II, so maybe we’ll get a little backstory.

Carver and Terry: Terry appeared in the first Dragon Quest Heroes game, but as a lone wolf, it was difficult to tell if he was on board with the rest of the Heroes. With the addition of Carver, both Heroes will actually fight alongside your enemies. Both of these characters come from Dragon Quest VI.

Meena and Maya: These twin sisters are from Dragon Quest IV but they both have very different powers. Meena is a diviner who relies on spells and ranged attacks while Maya is a melee fighter who can wreak havoc with her twin fans.

Jessica and Angelo: Jessica was also in the original Dragon Quest Heroes game but now she is back with fellow Dragon Quest VIII companion Angelo to cast spells, do ranged damage and charm enemy monsters.
