Me-ow! According to Variety, actress Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman in the upcoming film, The Batman. She joins Robertson Pattinson as Batman, who is the only other cast member announced.

Catwoman’s history is almost as long as Batman’s. Making her first appearance in Batman #1 (1940), The Cat aka Selina Kyle, became the on again off again flame for both Batman and Bruce Wayne. Since then, she’s had a multitude of adaptations and transformations throughout comics and other media. She remains Batman’s longest love interest as well as one of the longest villains/antiheroes in comics.

Speaking of adaptations, Kravitz casting marks the ninth woman (and third woman of color) to take on the mantle of Catwoman in live-action. She joins other iconic performances like Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Anne Hathaway.

While we don’t know what Kravitz role will be in the film, whether she’s a villain, antihero or a little bit of both, I’m thrilled at this casting choice and am really looking forward to seeing what they do with the character. Catwoman is one of my favorite comic book characters of all time and the relationship between Batman and Catwoman is one that always fascinates me. So the fact that we’re getting the character at all is a thrill.

Let us know what you think of the casting! Are you excited or are you tired of having yet another Batman film? Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC film news. The Batman flies into theaters June 25, 2021.
