This is incredibly sad news. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Zack Snyder has stepped down from Justice League to focus on his family. The family has suffered immense tragedy in March and the director made his decision after thoughtful consideration.

According to THR, Snyder’s daughter Autumn committed suicide in March. She was just 20 years old. The news was kept quiet and production on the film halted for 2 weeks. While Snyder tried to get back into the swing of things and dive back into work, it wasn’t the same. “In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it. The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming. And in the last two months I’ve come to the realization …I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”

Warner Bros Picture President, Toby Emmerich also made a comment regarding the news. “What they are going through is unimaginable, and my heart — our hearts — go out to them.” And while the studio considered pushing back the release date, they made other plans instead. Geek hero Joss Whedon will be stepping in to direct additional scenes and oversee the post-production process. Not an easy job at all and we wish him the best of luck taking up the mantle for a bit.

According to the Snyders, their daughter loved to write, she would write all the time. It’s a tragic loss to lose an artistic mind that we’re sure would have achieved success as a writer, should she have wanted. And we here at Geek Girl want to extend our love and condolences to the entire Snyder family for their loss.

We will update you with any further news regarding the future of Justice League.
