This is some of the best of news we’ve heard all month! Geek god Zachary Levi has switched over to DC from Marvel in this amazing new casting. Thanks to THR we learned that Levi has been cast as Captain Marvel, more popularly known as Shazam! The David F. Sandberg directed film just got a lot more interesting.

For those who don’t know, Captain Marvel is one of the most unique heroes. When a young boy, Billy Batson, yells out “Shazam!” he turns into the god-like superhero. The name is an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury. His strength rivals that of Superman, he’s that strong!

In an interesting move, the film is being produced by New Line instead of the typical Warner Bros. Sandberg comes from a horror background and Levi comes from a comedic background, so it’ll be interesting to see the tone of the film. But the casting of Levi is the most fun news! He’s such a fun presence and bound to give an uplifting performance. We can’t wait to see what he does with it. Currently there’s no casting news on Billy Baston but now that we have Levi playing Captain Marvel, I think the wait will be well worth it.

What do you think of the casting? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC movie news! There is currently no release date for the film.
