StarWars.com broke the news today that Donald Glover will play young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming stand-alone Han Solo feature. Glover, who is riding a wave of critical acclaim for his unconventional FX comedy series, Atlanta, joins Alden Ehrenreich, the new Han Solo, as the second major cast member to be announced.

The film, currently billed on IMDB as “Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film,” is slated for a 2018 release and will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind The Lego Movie and both 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street.

Say Lord and Miller: “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Donald Glover may be on his way to an EGOT if he keeps landing sweet film roles. He appeared in the Academy Award-nominated The Martian, and he’ll be in the upcoming Spiderman: Homecoming (which would make two big Disney franchises). Glover was also nominated for a Grammy for his album Because the Internet. He made a mark on the critical darling / ratings under-dog CommunityNow he just needs to get himself to Broadway!
