Whovians, the BBC has kept us satiated and content these past few weeks. And guess what? The news train continues to barrel down the tracks! We learned from the Doctor Who official site that Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney, who portrays Elle Argent on the mega-popular Netflix teen romance, will join Team TARDIS in 2023.
So, who will Finney portray on our favorite timey-wimey sci-fi series?
She will play Rose, and, in the words of the Doctor Who site, Finney is currently “filming scenes that are due to air in 2023 to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary.”
This announcement comes hot on the heels of Sunday’s massive reveal that David Tennant and Catherine Tate will reprise their roles on the science fiction juggernaut for next year. Last week, we learned Ncuti Gatwa would take up the Gallifreyan mantle as the Fourteenth Doctor, piloting the TARDIS after Jodie Whittaker‘s upcoming departure as the Thirteenth Doctor.
Finney had this to say regarding her new role:
If anyone would have told 8 year old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them. This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get Ready.
Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!
So, how can there be another Rose? There’s some speculation circling social media that Rose could be the daughter of Donna Noble and Shaun Temple (Karl Collins). Regardless of the reason, Davies and co. will pleasantly surprise us come next year.
