Welcome Back to the Sh*tshow

Earpers, hold on to your butts. Vanity Fair has revealed that our favorite sh*tshow, Wynonna Earp, will return with a 90-minute special on Tubi. (Say “Thank you, Tubi.”) The special is currently titled Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, but that might change down the line. Production will start in Calgary soon.

Vanity Fair‘s Maureen Ryan sat with show creator and executive producer Emily Andras and stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dom Provost-Chalkley and Katherine Barrell. In the 15-minute reunion special (which you can watch on Vanity Fair), Andras, who penned the script, and our core four cast members dish on their excitement regarding this welcome return to Purgatory.

Said four are confirmed to reprise their respective roles — Scrofano as the titular demon-hunting gunslinger, Rozon as Doc Holliday, Provost-Chalkley as Waverly Earp and Barrell as Nicole Haught. Paolo Barzman, who directed 21 of the 49 episodes originally airing on Syfy, will helm the special. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on other returning cast members, such as Varun Saranga as Jeremy Chetri, Greg Lawson as Randy Nedley and Martina Ortiz Luis as Rachel Valdez. (Although, I sure hope they come back.)

Where They Are At

We don’t know much about the special’s story, only that Andras reveals in the reunion video that three years have passed in Purgatory as it has in real life. She thinks it’s crucial to meet these characters where they’re at. For example, Wynonna and Doc have been traveling together since the Season 4 finale, “Old Souls,” (which aired on April 9, 2021) while newlyweds Waverly and Nicole have been reveling in domestic bliss in Purgatory.

So, it’ll be interesting to see what brings the gang back together. Andras teases a new kind of challenge that’ll put our characters to the test. Vanity Fair also reveals that Wynonna Earp: Vengeance will showcase a “revenge-driven female villain.” (Could it be Eve?)

Andras stresses the importance of crafting a special that’s a gift for Earpers as well as a “gateway drug” for new fans. Could we potentially get a Season 5 out of this? While Vanity Fair‘s headline dubs this “One Last Ride,” the reunion video doesn’t give any indication as such.

What’s on the Horizon

That said, if this is the end, I am (still) all in. I can’t wait for 90 glorious Earpin’ minutes wherein we tie narrative loose ends and give these characters the send-off (or hints at something more) they deserve. Side note: seeing Rozon’s Doc facial hair made me giddier than anticipated.

Wynonna Earp Seasons 1 through 4 are currently streaming on Netflix. Vengeance is slated to premiere on Tubi in late 2024.

What are your hopes for Vengeance? Do you have any predictions or theories? Sound off in the comments, Earpers.
