Wynonna Wednesday: Theories for a WYNONNA EARP Season 5

Welcome back to Wynonna Wednesday, Earpers, a weekly Wynonna Earp column. This time, I want to dive into things I’m dying to see in a potential fifth season of Wynonna Earp. While the show’s future remains uncertain, I know Earpers are fighting tooth and nail to help find a home for our posse of dipsh*ts. I think it’d be fun to theorize in the interim. It helps stave off the pervasive pain of saying goodbye. So, hold on to your butts. Grab some whiskey and doughnuts. Let’s get to Earping.

Wynonna / Doc / Alice Reunion

This is a biggie for me. Watching Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and Doc (Tim Rozon) tearfully give their daughter Alice away in Season Two utterly tore my heart asunder. What a gut-wrenching moment. Then, to have them talk about paying her a visit in the Syfy finale, “Old Souls,” was the cherry on top of a vanilla-dipped doughnut sundae (Did I just invent something here?).

I’d love to see Wynonna and Doc bring Alice back to Purgatory so she can meet her WayHaught aunties and uncle Jeremy. Grandpa Nedley! Sister Rachel! Wynonna taking up the mama mantle and all that entails. Methinks Doc would be such a sweet, doting papa. Wynonna would teach Alice how to be a bona fide badass.

Nicole Adjusting to Her New Role as the Angel’s Shield

When Dark Waverly (Dom Provost-Chalkley) bestowed Nicole (Katherine Barrell) with the “Angel’s Shield” label, I couldn’t help but wonder what that truly meant. Does Nicole possess supernatural abilities now? Or is she merely a human bound to the Ghost River Triangle for all eternity? Yes, Nicole is happy to be Waverly’s wife, but I’d also like to see her grapple with never leaving the GRT again.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing some supernatural perks. Perhaps she’ll get a spiffy shield a la Captain America that’s also imbued with a specific set of powers. Let’s get literal. Maybe she can create an invisible force field with just a wave of her hand. The possibilities are endless.

Where the Fork Is Eve?

Eve, that crafty little shapeshifter, was booted out of the Garden and left to scurry about untethered on Earth. She took on the form of Jeremy (Varun Saranga), Nicole and Wynonna while in the Garden. Of course, when the trailer for the back half of Wynonna Earp Season 4 was released, Earpers wondered whether Dark Waverly was actually Eve. Plot twist! Dark Waverly was Dark Waverly (Thanks, Captain Obvious, aka me.).

I would love to see Eve show up in Purgatory and wreak havoc. Just go to town on the … town. The shapeshifting element adds a fun twist to her presence as well. She could take on the shape of past Wynonna Earp villains. Bobo Del Rey, perhaps? Or Bulshar.

Kate Returning to Purgatory

I need me some vampire Kate (Chantel Riley). It may be safe to assume that Kate’s absence can be chalked up to Chantel Riley filming Frankie Drake Mysteries. She did help Nicole escape BBD’s train. I’d like to see her flee BBD and make her way back to the Ghost River Triangle. Now that Mercedes is also a vamp, the pair can be a dynamic undead duo that paints the town red.

I’m seeing a Thelma & Louise-type buddy-comedy adventure with the stoic Kate and the freewheeling Mercedes. Make it so, Emily Andras.

WayHaught Domesticity

We married our gays. Now, let’s give them a chance at that domestic life. I can picture Waverly being the “neat freak” and insisting that everything stay organized. Nicole being a little laxer when it comes to household primping. Going to pumpkin patches in the fall. Singing carols at Christmas. Organizing town events together. Getting to be truly happy in their home.

Give us some WayHaught marital bliss, please.

More Nedley / Rachel / Billy Shenanigans

We need to hear about that fishing trip. Nedley (Greg Lawson) is already a father figure to Nicole. In addition, he’s taken on that role for Rachel (Martina Ortiz-Luis) and perhaps Billy Clanton (Billy Bryk). What if Nedley takes Rachel and Billy on other trips? I want to see them all go out for burgers in the city. Nedley’s become the de facto Purgatory papa and I’m here for it. They can all do incantations together. The family that incants while donning bear head hats together…

Jeremy’s New Position as Deputy Chief and the Outcome of His Date

Jeremy finally achieved some semblance of contentment in “Old Souls.” He was promoted to Deputy Chief of the Black Badge Division. Additionally, he scored a date with the hot caterer at the WayHaught wedding. Since the demonic presence has shifted in Purgatory, I’d be interested to see what kinds of protocols Jeremy would enact. How he’d step into his new position as the Big Boss. Large and in charge.

Not to mention, I want to hear about the outcome of his date. I just want Jerbear to be happy.

More Dark Waverly

Waverly mentioned in “Better Dig Two” that Dark Waverly was sated “for now.” How ominously open-ended. Andras clearly wanted to leave wiggle room for more DW in the future. Waverly grappling with her “dark side” has always been a prevalent plot point in Wynonna Earp. Of course, Jolene was primarily behind her struggle. She unleashed Dark Waverly. But something tells me there’s more to this story. I want to know what Waverly’s book said! Maybe our gang will make another trip to the Garden. Somehow.

I really want to see Dark Waverly make a resurgence. Nicole can talk her down again as the Angel’s Shield.
