8 Predictions for WYNONNA EARP Season 5 Based on ‘Vengeance’

Updated on:

Nicole Haught, Wynonna Earp and Doc Holliday stand in the snow on a sunny day with their weapons drawn, ready to face an unseen threat.

After three (torturous) years off the air, Wynonna Earp took Tubi by storm this month. Returning in the form of a new 90-minute special titled Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, we’ve finally reunited with the endearingly unhinged characters we love.

The ending of Vengeance leaves the door wide open for more rich storytelling in this world. In the event we get that coveted Season 5, here are my eight predictions for what might happen next.

Jeremy and Waverly Will Find a Way to Revive Doc

In the final moments of Vengeance, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) makes Jeremy (Varun Saranga) promise her that he’ll revive Doc (Tim Rozon). Then, Waverly (Dom Provost-Chalkley) departs with Jeremy to sort out the now-corrupt Black Badge Division in Egypt. I predict our dynamic duo will find a way to bring back Doc, but it won’t be overnight. You have to ramp up narrative suspense, right? Regardless of how long it takes, if we get another opportunity to Earp it up, Emily Andras will ensure our favorite cowboy returns from the dead.

Wynonna Will Have to Unleash Mina to Retrieve Peacemaker

To me, Wynonna and Peacemaker are synonymous — they go together like whiskey and doughnuts. I feel like, eventually, the demon killer will require her demon-killing gun. I can picture Wynonna reluctantly opening the Elchur Minificial Box of Containment to retrieve Peacemaker, but this act will also unleash Mina (Karen Knox). It’s inexplicable, but something tells me we’ll see Mina again. After all, she’s technically not “defeated” but trapped in a box.

Really, I want to see more Mina. Let her wreak a bit more havoc. This could be a storyline later in the season, though.

Alice Won’t Come Home Until After Doc Returns

Vengeance blessed us with Alice breadcrumbs; we even saw a photo of her. The ultimate objective for WynDoc is to bring Alice back to Purgatory. However, I imagine our titular gunslinger will want Alice to remain with Gus until Jeremy and Waves revive Doc — especially if Lafferty’s (Andrew Bushell) mysterious boss turns out to be more formidable than he and Mina combined. It’s probably best to keep the young girl away from all that until there’s a relative level of safety.

We’ll See Waverly Thrive at Black Badge

I envision our half-angel thriving at BBD. She’ll relish that high-stakes environment, more specifically, rooting out the corruption embedded within. We’ll learn how BBD was compromised, and my guess is it ties in with Lafferty’s boss. On a separate note, I’d love to see more of Jeremy, particularly his inner world and love life. He deserves a meaty storyline.

Nicole and Wynonna Will Hilariously Butt Heads

Sheriff Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell) deputizes Wynonna in the final minutes of the special. They might be besties, but they’re no strangers to contention from time to time. Vengeance leans heavily into their “Odd Couple” dynamic, so I hope Season 5 does the same. They’ll hilariously butt heads as Wynonna goes to work with Nicole. We’ll also see our sheriff’s day-to-day as she strives to protect Purgatory while Wynonna gets a taste of that law enforcement life. Let the chaos ensue.

We’ll Learn More About Who Lafferty Was and His Boss

While Lafferty was one of our Big Bads in Vengeance, he’s still a bit of an enigma. We know he answers to someone high up on the food chain. I predict we’ll learn more about who Lafferty was and his boss. Why did Lafferty need Mina and Peacemaker so badly?

My crackpot theory? Now, walk with me here. I can picture Lafferty’s boss as being none other than … Eve. Gasp! Hey, it’s a fun way to incorporate her back into the overarching narrative. It would also be interesting if she was responsible for BBD’s corruption.

More Dark Waverly and Nicole Serving as the Shield

Perhaps this is wishful thinking on my part, but I can see a fifth season delving deeper into Dark Waverly and Nicole serving the Ghost River Triangle as the Angel’s Shield. We haven’t seen the last of DW. Plus, I want to dig into what constitutes Nicole’s role as the shield. What does that entail? Maybe we’ll see Dark Waverly re-emerge if Eve becomes a relevant threat again,

A Deeper Dive Into WayHaught’s Home Life

Remember when Nicole mentions the possibility of having kids, but before Waverly can voice her feelings on the subject, Mina rudely interrupts them? I’d love to get more clarity on how Waverly feels. I predict we’ll revisit this subject in Season 5.

Additionally, we’ll touch on how Nicole feels about being bound to the Ghost River Triangle for the rest of her life. While she’s head over heels in love and happily married to her wife, I imagine it’s a mishmash of complex emotions — perhaps those feelings change by the day. Really, I want to explore the more complicated, darker parts of our main characters.
