Earpers, the Wynonna Earp midseason finale is nigh. Syfy blessed us with a brief teaser for our favorite sh*tshow. And when I say “brief,” I mean brief. We’re talking 20 seconds here.
Now, “Holy War Part One” ended with a deceased Nicole (Kat Barrell) at the hands of Jeremy (Varun Saranga) and Nedley (Greg Lawson) in an attempt to rid the former of Mam Clanton’s nasty hex. Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) walked in on the affair and was, naturally, distraught. However, this teaser is wholly bereft of our Haughtpants which is worrisome, to say the least.
The teaser reveals an inebriated Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) sauntering through the woods with Peacemaker (Yay!) in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in another. She’s singing a lovely tune about how “the girl with the big-ass gun is finished with compromise.” We see shots of Doc (Tim Rozon) looking concerned. Waves looking utterly dismayed (with short hair). There’s Jeremy donning his Black Badge suit and Rachel (Martina Ortiz-Luis) screaming bloody murder in what appears to be Waverly’s Shortys shirt. A creepy demon waving from outside a window. Once again, Nicole is nowhere to be seen. Oh, and text sprinkled throughout said teaser revealing that Wynonna Earp Season Four will return for its second half in 2021.

There’s so much to unpack for such a tiny teaser! Firstly, Nicole’s absence. Secondly, Wynonna hasn’t drunkenly cavorted through the woods in a rage since Dolls passed away. Could Nicole’s death be the culprit for this particular alcohol-soaked outing? Of course, we know Nicole will return eventually, but perhaps the midseason finale will make the road back to life a bit more complex than anticipated. Because nothing is ever simple on Wynonna Earp. On a more materialistic note, I dig Waverly’s short hairdo! She appears more maternal. Perhaps this is Waverly’s “I mean business” hair cut. Not to mention, Peacemaker hath returned! Hallelujah!
