The Spare Room
7000 Hollywood Blvd.
Inside the Roosevelt Hotel
Muppets. Tabletop Games. Tiki.
This one just gets everything right for me. Housed inside the Roosevelt Hotel (across from Grauman’s – yes, it will always be Grauman’s!). Built in 1927. Location of the first academy awards. HAUNTED they say! The highlights of the Roosevelt are many and varied.
I know, I know. Downtown Hollywood. Limited parking. Hipster vibe. It’s worth it though for the history alone. But they also have all of this: tiki, muppets, bowling, and tabletop games — all in one spot.
Bowling takes a bite depending on how many players you have, but watching is free. The games: free to play when you leave your credit card for security – Mancala, Jenga, Spoons, Connect Four, Dominos, and a Bingo & Bratwurst contest.
The best part! A once a month Evening of Tiki. The first Wednesday of each month this summer, The Spare Room is bringing in a guest mixologist to present a special tiki cocktail of their own invention.
But wait! What about the muppets I mentioned? The Spare Room partnered with The Henson Co. to create these amazing Fraggle Rock playing cards. Unfortunately, they’re not available for play at the bar (they’d disappear of course), but they’re available online for $10.
Head out to see Fury Road (again), get validated, and then head over to The Spare Room. And bring the cards.
