The future is female. According to Deadline, we’re going to get a lot more superheroines coming soon. Yes. Freaking. Please! The site is reporting that Allan Heinberg, one of the writers of the smash-hit Wonder Woman, is committed to bringing an hour long series to ABC featuring some of Marvel’s female heroines. This just a day after the highly anticipated Captain Marvel trailer dropped.

Not too much is known about the project, as Marvel is keeping things hush hush. But with the reported push to bring more original series from the Marvel franchise to television, there are a lot of potentials here. Apparently this series will focus on more lesser known characters, none of which have been specified. However, it’s noted that it will focused on “super powered” heroines, so that means no Black Widow, Agent Carter or Melinda May.

Heinberg has a history both at DC and at Marvel, haven written comic series for both giants. He’s worked on Young Avengers, Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, JLA: Crisis Of Conscience and even Wonder Woman. He’s signed on to not only write the series but executive produce it as well, along with Jeph Loeb. So he has the credit to back up a well written series. It’s no guarantee that the series will stay on ABC, given that Inhumans turned out to a flop for the company and their cancellation of Agent Carter. But it seems they may be ready to try again.

While, admittedly, I’m pretty disappointed that a woman isn’t writing the series, it’ll be great to see more heroines on the screen. If this goes to series, we definitely need to see more women attached to it behind the scenes. It’s about women afterall. As for the heroines included, I’m really looking to see if they include a few like Squirrel Girl, Spider-Gwen, She-Hulk, and Miss America/America Chavez. Let’s keep our fingers crossed this will work out and we’ll get a good TV series!
