What an exciting week for casting news! Announced today on Deadline, we have two more cast members for the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984. That’s right! Double casting news to speculate about. Actor, director, writer Ravi Patel joins with Gabriella Wilde.
Unfortunately for all of us, there is no news as to who they’re playing. But fortunately for us, there are speculation hats. So put yours on and let’s talk about who these actors could be playing. Starting with Wilde, I have a a theory. I think she could be playing an Amazonian. But not just any Amazonian, she could be playing Persephone. She was in the Wonder Woman animated film in 2009 as a warrior who betrayed the Amazonians and became the lover of Ares. Granted, Wilde doesn’t have to be Persephone per say. But an Amazonian that betrays Wonder Woman and her sisters would make an interesting second antagonist.

As for Patel, I’ll be quite honest and say I’m drawing a blank. He’s known to be comedic in his career so he could be playing some comedy relief. That would mean he would be a part of Diana’s crew. But I have an inkling they might typecast and make him a funny scientist. Possibly one that has interacted with Cheetah. But really, I think his casting is a fun mystery that we should keep thinking about. You’ll have to tell us who you think he’ll be playing!
I’m just really excited for more casting for the film. The first film was just so good that this film has a lot riding on it’s shoulders. They’ve made it clear during their appearance at SDCC that this film won’t be a sequel, but just another story involving Wonder Woman. I’m not sure what exactly that will mean for continuity or anything like that. But they have seemingly endless possibilities and I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re going to bring to fans next year.
