Just as in many other parts of life, healthcare is an area where women are at a disadvantage. This could all be changed. An influential study published by the journal BMC Health Services Research found that women who were empowered to make decisions over their personal health were more likely to access health services, improving their quality of life. Women being able to obtain proper healthcare at places like https://craftconcierge.com/achieve a range of benefits, from boosting their mental health to cutting the incidence rate of long-term health conditions – ultimately, improving quality of life.
Feminine hygiene
At the frontier of issues affecting women is feminine hygiene, many aspects of which continue to present unfair situations for women. A great example of this is the continued phenomenon of period poverty, where, as WTTW highlights, women are forced to choose between purchasing food or purchasing menstrual products. Feminine hygiene is incredibly important; simple principles such as retaining a healthy PH balance can help to provide health benefits that can have a wide-ranging impact on holistic health, from improved mental well-being to the prevention of illnesses like HPV. Empowering women to be confident and objective, and removing stigmatization, is key.
The gender barrier
While women in western countries typically live longer than men, that doesn’t mean they have equal access to healthcare. Indeed, one article by the Berkeley Greater Good magazine highlights how there’s a large trust gap in female medicine – where, for historic reasons, women feel they cannot trust their doctor. This encompasses both the act of seeking help and also in responding to proposed courses of treatment. Worryingly, the trust gap leads to underreporting of conditions such as vulvodynia. With lower reporting comes lower rates of investigation and, ultimately, impaired research into the condition. This presents what is effectively a catch-22 situation, and is something which society as a whole can get involved to counter.
Empowering women
For many legislators, the key to improving the situation for women comes in improving awareness. As the NCSL asserts, many conditions not typically associated with women are actually proving to be leading causes of death – conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, often thought of as diseases that kill men. Building awareness of the true impact of these diseases, and how they equally impact women as well as they do men, is the first step in bridging the healthcare gap. Empowered women, who are educated in the health risks they face and how healthcare needs to change to help them, will enable future generations to enjoy the rewards of research into female problems and the improved therapy and medicine that brings.
This is a key objective for modern women. Having an equitable level of healthcare is so important; it not only enables women to enjoy their life to the fullest, but informs future generations on what care to develop and where the problems lie.
