We first heard about the Dragonlance announcement from Wizards of the Coast in April during the DnD Direct 2022. But then things got quiet. We knew it would release this year and that we would also be getting a board game. But that was about it. Then, today, during the Wizards Presents 2022 presentation, we go our next look at the iconic adventure and everything we can expect to see. And from the look of things, they aren’t holding back.

Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen is a Dungeons and Dragons adventure set in the world of Krynn during the War of the Lance. So adventurers are already going to be thrown in the middle of battle, both on and off the field. They will be tasked with making decisions that will coincide with memorable events during the war. But, where Wizards of the Coast is really shaking things up is with the Warriors of Krynn board game developed by Rob Daviau and Stephen Baker.

While both of these adventures can be played separately, they can also be played together. Adventurers can choose to take their battles to the board game and play them out before heading back into TTRPG mode for the story/roleplaying portions. For those who don’t want to flip back and forth, Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen and Warriors of Krynn can be played independently without feeling like you are missing out. Wizards of the Coast set out to give us the best of both worlds.

And finally, the best part to come out of this announcement is that Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen will arrive on December 6, 2022. That means we just have a few short months to prepare for the battle of a lifetime. Players will be able to choose between the traditional standard and game store edition like usual or a deluxe edition that includes the board game and an exclusive Dungeon Master screen. This will also mark the first time players can preorder the physical and digital bundle through DnDBeyond! Be sure to get your preorder in now!
