Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG and board games. We aim to continue sharing everything we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.
We’ve got hot chocolate on tap, holiday carols playing softly and the best side dishes a hungry adventurer can imagine. But all of those goodies do not match what we have to share this week. Avoid the holiday gift grumbles at your next party by critting with every gift you give. If they are fans of Wizards of the Coast’s TTRPG Dungeons and Dragons, we have something they will love.

Wizards of the Coast Gift Guide
2024 Player’s Handbook and 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide
Whether your TTRPG player is leading the story or leading the charge, 2024 saw a revamp to something they need and love. The Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide are must-haves for every player. It gives them access to everything they need, from creating characters, setting up encounters, building a world, and much more. If you have a new player, this is a great way to help them continue to grow within the hobby.
Dungeon Master’s Screen
With an updated Dungeon Master’s Guide, it’s only fair to include the new and updated Dungeon Master’s Screen. It’s the perfect quick reference guide to help keep gameplay flowing smoothly. It’s a great addition to any table and allows DMs to keep their fun, and sometimes not-so-fun, surprises from prying eyes. Plus, it’s a must-have for new DMs just learning how to roll with the punches.

Spellbook Cards
Another great addition to every player’s bag of tricks is the Spellbook Cards. Each deck is built around a class Ranger, Druid or Cleric, and features need to know spells, actions and bonus actions. It’s a terrific resource for players new to a class or those who want to maximize their round by prepping beforehand. We really can’t help but focus on how incredible this is for new players who may feel overwhelmed by how much their class can do in six seconds.
The Deck of Many Things
One of our favorite releases from Wizards of the Coast in 2024 is The Deck of Many Things box set. Chances are, at some point in your adventure, you will come across the opportunity to pull a card from the Deck of Many Things. Hopefully, good things came to be, and you didn’t end up on a different plane. The box set features the support book The Book of Many Things, with fun tidbits to toss into any adventure themed on the deck.
Who I Am: A nerd by the strictest definition. I enjoy diving straight into my favorite fandoms without a care in the world. I live on video/board games, fantasy movies and TV, and all things geeky.
