In the midst of the pandemic that is affecting our world, many fan conventions are postponing their events to later dates. Wizard World is using the virtual experience to combat the quarantine and give fans a new kind of experience.
The Wizard World Virtual Experience just held their first event on Twitch on Tuesday. The first experience featured members of the cast of Supernatural. The great thing about this event is that it is free with options to purchase one-on-one chats with the members of the panel. The event also sells autographs, personal recordings, and merchandise.
The cast members that were involved in the first event were Mark Sheppard (Crowley), Emily Swallow (Amara/The Darkness), Timothy Omundson (Cain), Ruth Connell (Rowena), and Sebastian Roche (Sebastian). Fans from around the world tuned into the live event. This experience is very different. First of all, you can actually hear what the panel is saying. If you’ve ever experience a live audience con, you know that you can’t always hear the panel. And sometimes the accents make it difficult to understand what the panel is saying. But! The fan reactions and laughter is missing.
Shepard said they love the fan reactions at the live Wizard World conventions and can feel the love when they walk out on stage. The cast was very appreciative of the Supernatural Family and said that the fans make the con experience much more exciting for them. The virtual experience is a great way to connect without having to touch people. But then you miss out on the hugs and handshakes with your favorite stars.
Wizard World is planning more of these virtual events. The next event is Saturday, April 4 with cast members from Once Upon A Time, including Sean Maguire (Robin Hood), Jared Gilmore (Teen Henry Mills), Andrew J. West (Adult Henry Mills), and Lee Arenberg (Grumpy). Something tells me this will be a big thing in the months to come.
