Winter Is Here: 15 Cocktails for Your GAME OF THRONES Rewatch

Winter is here.  It’s December 21st and you have one job.  Rewatch all of  Game of Thrones.   I am rewatching as a gift to myself and in preparation for the final season.  You are too?  Great.  Well, if you’re like me, you like a themed beverage.  And, I’m here to help.  Collected here are 15 Game of Thrones cocktails to whet your whistles while you wander Westeros all over again.  

You can drink them with any episode that corresponds to their name, according to the liquor you prefer, or make all of them at once and have a GoT cocktail party… whatever tickles your dragon. 

THE HEART TREE

This is a white cosmopolitan with red cranberries.  Look into your glass and see all. 

2 oz  Vodka of choice

1/4 oz Cointreau

1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1/2 oz Simple Syrup (optional)

1 1/2 oz White Cranberry Juice

Whole Cranberries 

Combine ingredients over ice in cocktail shaker.  Shake and strain into chilled martini glass.  Garnish with 3-4 floating cranberries.  Bonus points if they look like a face.

A LANNISTER ALWAYS PAYS HIS DEBTS

This is a cocktail also known as the lion’s tail.  Need I say more? 

4 oz Bourbon

1 oz Allspice Dram

2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

2 tsp Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients over ice.  Stir.  Pay up. 

THE KING’S ROAD  

If you’re on the King’s Road, you’re going to stop for a horn of ale.  Here’s a beer cocktail that’ll help you forget the dangers of travel.  

6 oz India Pale Ale

2 oz Bourbon

¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice

½ oz Simple Syrup

Pour the beer into a chilled tall glass. Pint glass works, so does a collins glass or a highball.  In a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup with ice, and shake. Strain the bourbon mixture into the beer and garnish with a lemon twist.

THE WHITE WALKER 

A classic white russian with a little peppermint for an extra icy cool down.  

1 oz Vodka

1 oz Peppermint Schnapps

1 oz Kahlua

Half and Half

Combine ingredients over ice.  Stir.  Use as much half and half as you prefer.  It just depends on how wight you like it. 

WILDFIRE

A flash of green and everything is over.  Good luck recovering after a night of these.  They destroy everything. 

1 1/2 oz  Tequila

2 oz Midori Melon Liqueur

2 oz  fresh Lime Juice

Combine ingredients over ice in shaker tin or glass.  Strain in to glass or serve over ice with lime wedge as garnish.  Can you do origami?  Make tiny paper boats to float on the top!  And burn them?  Maybe not.

THE RED WEDDING 

Blood will flow.  With Tequila and a nice twist that won’t make you gauge your own eyes out.  

2 oz Tequila

3 oz Blood Orange Juice/Blood Orange Soda if you prefer

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice 

1 oz Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients over ice in shaker tin.  Shake. Pour into glass, or strain into margarita glass. 

VALAR MAGHULIS

Based on the classic dark and stormy.  This cocktail adds a bitter twist. 

2 oz Dark Rum

5 oz Ginger Beer

2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters

Pour rum over ice, add ginger beer and bitters.  Stir.  Drink.  Change faces. 

THE KING IN THE NORTH

This deep red wine cocktail will help you survive the long night.  

2 oz Red wine

1/2 oz Burbon

1/2 oz Simple syrup

3 Luxardo Maraschino Cherries

Combine wine, bourbon and syrup in cocktail shaker over ice and shake.  Pour over ice.  Garnish with an orange twist and cherries.

 MILK OF THE POPPY

This is a play on the Penicillin cocktail with a botanical twist. Sleep painlessly and peacefully. 

2 oz Irish Whiskey
 
1/2 oz Pimm’s No. 1
 
3/4 oz Honey-ginger syrup
(add 1/2 cup of honey and 1/2 cup of water with one inch cube of fresh peeled ginger in sauce pan.  Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.  Turn off heat and remove ginger.  Cool.)
 
1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
 
Candied Ginger
 
Combine Irish Whiskey, Pimms, syrup and lemon juice in cocktail shaker, over ice.  Shake.  Pour over ice and garnish with candied ginger.
 

MOTHER OF DRAGONS

This cocktail has smoke, fire and lots of attitude.  

1 oz Mezcal

1/2 oz Tequila

1/2 oz Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1/2 oz Agave or Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker over ice and shake.  Pour into margarita or martini glass.  A chili/salt rim will help you negotiate your own surrender. 

THE TEARS OF LYS 

You only have to taste this cocktail once to be changed forever.  Drink it carefully. You may wake up with stones over your eyes.

2 oz Gin

2 tsp Luxardo Maraschino Cherry Juice 

1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice 

1/2 oz Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker and shake.  Pour into a martini glass, garnish with Luxardo cherry and lemon twist. 

THE HIGHGARDEN

This take on a French 75 is in celebration of the Queen of Roses.  Tell Cersei it was me. 

2 oz Sparkling Rose

2 oz Gin

1/2 oz St. Germain

1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice  

Combine gin, St. Germain and lemon juice in cocktail shaker and shake.  Pour into martini glass and add sparkling rose.   If you like it a little sweeter, just add a little simple syrup to taste. 

THE WATCHER ON THE WALL

Keep warm until the horn blows three times with this slow cooker mulled wine!  Then fight.  

1 Bottle Red Wine

1/2 cup Brandy

1/3 cup Honey

1 tsp Fresh Ginger

1 Orange, sliced

3 Sticks Cinnamon

8 to 10 Cloves

THE NIGHT IS DARK AND FULL OF TERRORS 

This cocktail is made of shadows, but there’s something behind them.  Something RED.   

3 oz Blavod Black Vodka

1 oz Chambord

Simple Syrup (optional)

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake.  Strain into a chilled martini glass.  

THE THREE-EYED RAVEN

There’s absinthe in this one, so your visions will be fully justified.  No warging necessary. But who doesn’t love a good warg? 

3/4 oz Absinthe

3/4 oz Elderflower Liqueur

3/4 oz Lillet Blanc

3/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Dash of Gin

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake.  Strain into a chilled martini or coupe glass.
