Disney is making a live action version of Aladdin starring Will Smith as the Genie of the Lamp. Smith posted the first cast photo on Facebook today.
Smith took the opportunity to introduce his cast mates, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.

Other cast members include just announced Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Jasmine’s handmaiden and recently cast, Billy Magnuseen will play Prince Anders, one of Jasmine’s suitors.

Aladdin will be directed by Guy Ritchie…yes…that Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes). The film will feature familiar melodies from the 1992 animated film and new songs composed by Alan Menken, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
This film continues the trend of Disney films coming to life. Disney has seen success with Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, and The Jungle Book. The Lion King live action film is in the works along with a new version of Mary Poppins.
