Big news for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series. Variety revealed today that Will Poulter has been cast in the fantasy show. Unfortunately, not much else has been reported. We don’t know what character he will be playing only that it is a lead. The only other news about casting that has creeped out was in July when it was revealed that Markella Kavenagh was in talks for the series. For her role, all we know is the character’s name is Tyra. Since no name has been revealed for Poulter’s role, perhaps it’s a well know character from Middle-Earth.

Will Poulter began his career when he was a child in the film Son of Rambow. If you haven’t seen it, rent it. It’s awesome. The English actor has a hefty resume and is well known for his roles in The Maze Runner films and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This year, he played tech genius Colin Ritman in Netflix’s choose your own adventure film, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and also appeared in this summer’s hit horror film, Midsommar

Amazon is keeping a very tight lid on Lord of the Rings. Which is a shame. The famed world of Middle Earth from J.R.R Tolkien has many fans and they are all eager for more information about the project. Perhaps Amazon is concentrating the hype train around their other fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, before they begin revealing more about Lord of the Rings.

What we do know is that it takes place during the Second Age, long before the events in Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. We think Númenor may play a big part in the series. During The Second Age, Middle Earth saw the first defeat of Sauron, Númenor was a kingdom of men but is destroyed by the end of that age. Aragorn is a descendent of the first King of Númenor.

Amazon did reveal the creative team with a stunning video last month at TCA’s. Check it out here, it is gorgeous and will definitely fill you with anticipation.
