Welcome to another edition of What’s New on TV! This week, we highlight what’s to come, including series premieres and shows returning after two years. There’s a bit of everything for viewers: those who love network TV and those who prefer streaming shows.
After two years, Jeff Bridges is back as the leading man on The Old Man. Lea Thompson, Genevieve Angelson, Schuyler Fisk and Wendie Malick are Hallmark’s leading ladies on The Chicken Sisters. And Joey King leads Netflix’s Uglies, a dystopian story.
Some exciting shows, including those ending this season, are premiering during the week of September 8–14. Check out our list of what to watch below.

NEW ON TV, SEPTEMBER 8-14
September 8 – Universal Basic Guys
One thing that can be said about FOX is that they know how to create great animated series for grownups. FOX’s new animated series, Universal Basic Guys, will try to be as relatable as possible for adults. The show follows the lives of Mark and Hank Hoagies after they lose their jobs to AI. Even though they are unemployed, they’re still receiving $3,000 a month, so they’ll use their free time to figure out where they belong in a world where AI seems to be taking over.
Universal Basic Guys premieres Sunday, September 8th at 8/7c on FOX.

September 9 – My Brilliant Friend
After a two-year hiatus, My Brilliant Friend returns for its fourth and final season. Throughout its first three seasons, the show has been able to portray the reality of female friendship as a woman recounts the friendship and conflicts between her and a girl she met in the 1950s. Can this final season keep up with the greatness of the first three?
My Brilliant Friend’s final season premieres Monday, September 9th at 9/8c on HBO.

September 9 – Cabin in the Woods
One recurring setting in the horror genre is a cabin in the woods. Viewers know that something terrible will happen if the main characters find themselves stuck in an isolated cabin. Cabin in the Woods is a docuseries highlighting that this doesn’t happen only in a fictional world. The series aims to combine true crime and true horror to share the investigative elements of crimes committed in remote cabins in the woods.
Cabin in the Woods premieres Monday, September 9th at 10/9c on Investigation Discovery.

September 10 – The Money Game
The game completely changed for college athletes after the new laws for NIL (name, image, and likeness). Instead of spending their college careers unable to profit, they could now make a career out of their personal brand. This limited series follows some student-athletes like Olivia Dunne, Jayden Daniels, and Angel Reese through the transition from restrictions to no restrictions for endorsements by the NCAA.
The Money Game premieres Tuesday, September 10th at Midnight/11c on Prime Video.

September 10 – The Chicken Sisters
What better way to promote a show than by announcing an incredible ensemble of women playing sisters? Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick are The Chicken Sisters. The series will be based on the novel by K.J. Dell’Antonia, which tells the story of feuding fried chicken restaurants. When it seems a reality show can end the feud, more secrets are revealed, endangering the peace.
The Chicken Sisters premieres Tuesday, September 10th at 3/2 am on Hallmark+.

September 11 – Boxer
One could say that after the Rocky movies, it is hard to come up with a boxing story that will captivate audiences for years to come. Nevertheless, Netflix is trying the genre with Boxer. The movie tells the story of a young boxer who must flee Poland due to communism. With his wife by his side, he will fight for his dream to become the best fighter in history.
Boxer premieres Wednesday, September 11th at 3/2 am on Netflix.

September 11 – Ms. Murder
True-crime docuseries are even more intriguing when nothing points to a crime being committed, and that’s the formula Ms. Murder is following. The series tells the story of three women who seemed to be living an ordinary life until questionable deaths changed everything.
Ms. Murder premieres Wednesday, September 11th at 3/2 am on Tubi.

September 12 – Emily in Paris
With more and more shows premiering on streaming services, gone are the days in which seasons had more than 20 episodes, and viewers had to wait week after week to find out what would happen next. In an alternative to mix-up the binge-watching method, Netflix has split up several of its shows into Part 1 and Part 2 of a season. Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 2 is coming out this week following Emily’s intent to find the balance between her personal and professional lives in the first part of the season.

September 12 – The Old Man
After a two-year hiatus, Jeff Bridges is back playing Dan Chase. The new season premieres two episodes following Dan and Harold as they try to rescue Emily in the Taliban. Meanwhile, Emily learns the truth about her biological father.

September 12 – Midnight at Pera Palace
This week’s trend is for several shows that had been on hiatus since 2022 to return. Among those, everyone’s favorite journalist is back on Midnight at Pera Palace. Can they succeed in the quest to save the fate of modern Turkey?

September 13 – Uglies
The Hunger Games and Divergent changed the game for dystopian movies, making them more likable among fans and turning them into success. This time around, Joey King is the lead in a dystopian film focused on enforced beauty standards. The story follows a teenager who goes on a journey to find her missing friend while she awaits mandatory cosmetic surgery.
Uglies premieres Friday, September 13th at 3/2 am on Netflix.

September 13 – Three Women
Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, Gabrielle Creevy and DeWanda Wise are the four women leading Starz new series. The show will follow these women’s stories as a writer convinces three women to tell their stories. Even though they’re all on different paths, they all seek to change their lives.
Three Women premieres Friday, September 13th at 10/9c on Starz.

September 13 – How to Die Alone
Several movies and TV shows have put their characters in near-death experiences that drastically push them to change their lives. How to Die Alone tries this well-known formula with the leading lady, Mel. She is a broke JFK airport employee who’s never been in love and no longer has dreams. But it all changes after her very own near-death experience.
How to Die Alone premieres Friday, September 13th at Midnight/11c on Hulu.

September 13 – Dora
If you’re one of the many kids who grew up watching Dora the Explorer and are looking for a show to introduce to your little ones, Paramount+’s Dora is the perfect show. It is still the story of Dora as she goes on different adventures with her monkey, Boots, and meets friends and enemies along the way.
Dora Season 2 premieres Friday, September 13th at 3/2 am on Paramount+.

September 13 – Wynonna Earp: Vengeance
After its series finale in 2021 with four seasons under its belt, Wynonna Earp fans have something exciting to look forward to. Saying goodbye to one’s favorite characters is never easy, but it’s always rewarding when we can have them back on our screens. For Tubi’s movie, Wynonna Earp will face a psychotic seductress seeking revenge on her and everyone she loves.

September 14 – Hamster & Gretel
Everyone knows the story of Hansel and Gretel, but Disney Channel brings a spin to the story by introducing Hamster and Gretel. The animated series follows Gretel and her hamster, who both get superpowers and must protect their city. The first episodes of the season will follow the duo as Kevin returns from relaxation camp, Carolina is cast in a telenovela and a threat from space comes into town.
Hamster and Gretel premieres Saturday, September 14th at 10/9 am on Disney Channel and Disney XD.

September 14 – The Heiress and the Handyman
One thing Hallmark will do is take viewers on a roller coaster of emotions while the two main characters fall in love. Jodie Sweetin and Corey Seiver are that couple in The Heiress and the Handyman. An heiress moves to a rural farm after losing her fortune and mistakes her neighbor for the handyman. Together, they compete at the county fair.
The Heiress and the Handyman premieres Saturday, September 14th at 8/7c on Hallmark.
