What We Do in the Shadows finally wrapped with a hilarious and heartfelt series finale, complete with a cornucopia of show-spanning Easter eggs for fans to pore over. “The Finale” also boasts three alternate documentary “endings” courtesy of Nadja’s top-tier hypnosis. Said endings pay homage to The Usual Suspects, Newhart (which finally gives us Nandermo) and Rosemary’s Baby.
To celebrate six bloody, batty and bitingly funny seasons of this underrated comedic gem, I’ve compiled a list of Easter eggs from “The Finale.” Note: Out of the alt “endings,” I’m only focusing on The Usual Suspects sequence because it has the most Easter eggs.

What We Do in the Shadows Series Finale Easter Eggs
Water Main Breaks, Sinkhole Imminent
In the unaired 1958 vampire documentary footage, Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) reads an article about the water main break in The Staten Island Chronicle. It features a quote from “Nandor Lee, a dentist.” Nandor (Kayvan Novak) tells the reporter it was the worst flood since the Great Flood of 1892. This is the same plot as Season 5’s “Local News.”
We even see Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) grab go-bags for the vampires while Colin Robinson insists they make their “last stand.” He shoots himself in the foot with an arrow, too.

Jackie Daytona
Additionally, in that same 1958 footage, Laszlo (Matt Berry) dons his Jackie Daytona disguise, complete with the requisite toothpick, fooling his good lady wife, Nadja. He claims he hails from “Tuscon, Arizonia.” This is a nod to Season 2’s “On the Run,” in which Laszlo flees to rural Pennsylvania and adopts the Jackie Daytona persona.

Witch Skin Hat
As the vampires prepare to flee in the 1958 documentary footage, Laszlo grabs his infamous witch skin hat. Said hat, which is incredibly unlucky, first appeared in Season 1’s “Manhattan Night Club.” Simon the Devious (Nick Kroll) coveted it.
Gizmo’s Former Vampire Life
While the gang contemplates a proper ending to their documentary, The Guide (Kristen Schaal) suggests they turn Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) into a vampire. Of course, Derek (Chris Sandiford) turned Guillermo in the Season 4 finale, with last season’s overarching narrative arc zeroing in on the latter attempting to navigate life as a vampire. Ultimately, Guillermo decides to be human again, so Nandor fulfills that wish by killing Derek.
Sucking Lots of Blood and F*cking
Laszlo plays a brief tune in “The Finale” about sucking lots of blood and f*cking, which is a nod to Season 3’s “The Prisoner,” in which he says this: “I didn’t become a vampire to end up as pen-bushing bureaucrat. I became a vampire to suck blood and to f*ck forever.”

The Usual Suspects
He Never Relents
Colin Robinson tells The Guide (who’s a detective in this alternate “ending”) that Nandor “never relents.” In the pilot episode, Nandor explains how he earned the moniker “Nandor the Relentless,” attributing it to his inability to relent.

Sunrise, Sunset
Behind Sean (Anthony Atamanuik) in The Usual Suspects-inspired alt documentary ending is a massive bulletin board full of flyers, brochures, pictures, business cards, etc. A significant portion of these are references to the series. For example, the Fiddler on the Roof poster is a nod to the Season 4 finale, “Sunrise, Sunset,” a popular song from said musical. Matt Berry sings it for the episode’s opening credits, and the cast performs it for the end credits.
Supermassive Black Hole
The bulletin board also features a kickball league poster. This poster references Season 3’s “Gail,” in which the vampires play kickball with the werewolves. It’s complemented by a killer needle drop: Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole.” Every Twilight fan probably clocked this homage from the opening notes of the Muse track.

If You’re Not 100
This one might be a stretch; however, there’s a birthday card on the corkboard that says, “Don’t Worry if You’re Not 100, You Just Look Like It.” I believe this is a nod to Colin Robinson’s 100th birthday party in Season 3’s “A Farewell.”
Al Quolanudar
Call me Captain Obvious, but I’m including this Easter egg anyway. There’s a poster promoting Al Quolanudar, complete with a sketch of Nandor on his precious horse, Jahan.
Guy Pillows
Sean mentions the 40 or 50 Guy Pillows stashed in his garage, but there’s also a brochure for Guy Pillow on his bulletin board. In Season 3’s “The Chamber of Judgement,” Sean attempts to sell said pillows to Laszlo and his buddies.

Jackson Daytona, Tuscon, Arizona
Here’s another reference to Jackie Daytona. The Guide spots the “Jackson Daytona” sticker at the bottom of the cork board, conjuring a memory from “On the Run,” which sees Laszlo high-fiving the high school girls’ volleyball team.
Mosquito Hunters Club
“It’s a house right here on Staten Island.” We hear Tonya (Abigail Savage) say this during The Guide’s revelation sequence. In Season 2’s “The Curse,” Tonya believes she found a house on Staten Island overrun with vampires.

Guillermo and his fellow vampire hunters infiltrate said house (not our crew, thankfully), wherein a nest of vampires attacks them. The group escapes by the skin of their teeth sans Derek, who they believe is dead. Additionally, there’s a Mosquito Hunters Club flyer, which is the name the hunters used to conceal their vamp-killing activities.
Derek Price – Wanted by the FBI
Derek Price, Guillermo’s sire, gets his very own “Wanted by the FBI” poster in The Usual Suspects scene.
1st Annual Staten Island Pride
This poster is a nod to Season 5’s “Pride Parade.” Sean runs for borough comptroller, and the gang decides he needs to connect with the LGBTQIA+ community to win the election. Thus, they all orchestrate Staten Island’s first Pride Parade. Laszlo acts as the parade’s grand marshal, too. We even hear him say, “Let’s have a clap for gay,” a quote from the episode, during the overlapping voices portion of this sequence.
Channel 8’s Joanna Roscoe
Joanna Roscoe must meet her end. On the corkboard, we see her Channel 8 business card. This is another reference to Season 5’s “Local News.” Roscoe is the reporter Nandor, who she calls “Nandor De Laurentiis,” chats with after the water main break.

Police Vehicle Joy Ride Wreck in Park
In Season 5’s “A Night Out with the Guys,” Nandor and Laszlo hang with Seanaaay and his crew. They get into some shenanigans, with Sean and his pals hijacking a police cruiser and crashing it in the park. This newspaper clipping is a nod to that.

S.I. Citizens Report Memory Issues
While this newspaper article doesn’t necessarily reference a specific episode or event, it stands to reason that our vampires have hypnotized enough people on the island to cause significant memory issues, aka “Brain Scramblies.”
Massive Fitness Business Card
The Massive Fitness business card is from the 24-hour gym Nandor frequents, especially in Season 3’s “The Cloak of Duplication,” where he tries to woo Meg (Lauren Collins), the receptionist.
Off-Camera Skydiver Crashes Parade
This clipping is also a nod to “Pride Parade.” Nandor attempts to launch himself into space, which he does successfully, but then he crash-lands during the borough’s Pride Parade.
Local Cemetery Missing Various Body Parts
Laszlo is a man of science. Season 6 has been all about his objective to construct a man out of dead human parts. Thus, it should come as no surprise that he robbed quite a few graves to create Cravensworth’s Monster (Andy Assaf).

Guillermo’s Aliases
“Gizmo” is Laszlo and Nadja’s name for Guillermo, while “The Vault” is his ex-boss Jordan’s (Tim Heidecker) moniker for him.

La-Z-Boy Recliner
You might call this one “lazy,” but the La-Z-Boy brochure is concealed by something else just enough so we only see “l-a-z.” “Laz” is Sean’s nickname for Laszlo.
Nadja Mug
In Season 4, Nadja opens a nightclub named after herself. The Guide drops her Nadja mug (with the logo on the bottom) in shock as she pieces together Colin Robinson’s fabrications in The Usual Suspects alternate “ending.”
Red Rock Steakhouse
In the Season 5 premiere, “The Mall,” Colin Robinson gets a job at the Red Rock Steakhouse. The vampires attribute Guillermo’s peculiar behavior to them forgetting his birthday, so they take him there to celebrate. Sean has a menu for the restaurant on the board.
Overlapping Voices
As The Guide stumbles outside the precinct, realizing Colin Robinson Keyser Söze-ed her, we hear overlapping voices and soundbites from the series. This includes the aforementioned “Let’s have a clap for gay.” We also hear Nadja and Nandor’s conversation about shapeshifters from Season 6’s “Laszlo’s Father.”
RELATED: TV Review: Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld
At one point, Nandor’s “Bazinga!” crops up, which he said during Season 3’s “The Casino.” We hear, “Now, I’m a wizard!” from Season 1’s “Baron’s Night Out.” Guillermo talks about Celeste being a former vampire familiar, who he moves in with in Season 1’s “Collaboration.”
The overlapping voices culminate in various quotes about Colin Robinson, from Sean’s remark that the latter “looks like a fetus” to Colin Robinson’s chat with Evie Russell (Vanessa Bayer) after he gives her a locket in Season 5’s “The Campaign.”
Evie Russell
Speaking of Evie, Colin Robinson whips out said locket with a photo of her inside before disposing it in a trash can.
The Jalopy
At the end of The Usual Suspects scene, Laszlo pulls up in his precious jalopy, which was introduced in Season 3’s “Gail.”

The Aftermath
Brain Scramblies
Guillermo asks Nadja if her collective hypnosis on the documentary watchers worked. She admits it will significantly lower the IQ of anyone tuning in, resulting in “Brain Scramblies.” This is a nod to Season 2’s “Brain Scramblies,” in which the vampires attend a Super Bowl (Superb Owl) party at Sean’s house. There, Laszlo and Nandor hypnotize Sean one too many times.

Glowing Eyes of a Feeding Energy Vampire
In the pilot, Colin Robinson puts his feeding powers on display by feasting on his fellow vampires. We see his eyes glow blue as he walks away. Colin Robinson flexes his energy vamp skills again in “The Finale,” resulting in the same aftereffect.
Guillermo Referencing Former Desire to Be a Vampire
The pilot also sees Guillermo informing the documentary crew about his desire to be a vampire. In a full-circle moment, he reflects on this in the series finale. Of course, being a vampire wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.

We’ll Meet Again
Laszlo and the vampires perform “We’ll Meet Again,” which we’ve heard in the end credits as sung by Guy Lombardo.
Ending With Nandor and Guillermo
“The Finale” presents a delightful button for the series in the outing’s final moments as Guillermo helps Nandor get ready for bed. When comparing this to the last scene of the pilot, in which Guillermo does the same thing, you can see how different both men are now. Their relationship has new depth and life.
Real-Life Director
After Guillermo pretends to bid farewell to Nandor, the documentary crew barrels into Nandor’s room to wrap up. We see a clapboard with the real-life director’s name, Yana Gorskaya, on it.
Mid-Credit Scene
This scene showcases footage from the pilot, wherein Nandor orchestrates a house meeting and rebukes Laszlo and Nadja for not practicing general hygiene in the cell.
