When vampires are away, the familiars will play on What We Do In The Shadows. In “Pine Barrens,” Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and Laszlo (Matt Berry) air out their grievances while camping with the neighbor. 

Lately, everyone has been really emotional on What We Do In the Shadows. Maybe time away from the house will do them some good.

PINE BARRENS

Nandor, Laszlo, and Baby Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) head to the Pine Barrens with Sean (Anthony Atamanuik), the neighbor and Laszlo’s new best friend. That leaves Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) home alone … sort of. They both forget that the other is in the house. Nadja plans on chilling with her girls. While Guillermo plans to do whatever he wants.

Nadja says Nandor and Laszlo have been bickering a lot lately. It’s getting bad. When they get to the cabin, Laszlo won’t even help Nandor with the bags. He also corrects everyone on everything they say. Nandor can’t stand a know-it-all.  Laszlo says Nandor has a small brain. 

Colin Robinson goes with the vampires while they hunt for food. Colin is more concerned about his Roblox inventory. Nandor asks him to stop talking because he’s scaring off the humans. Colin decides he’s ready to go because his iPad is on eight percent.

JABRONI

The next day, Colin goes hunting with Sean and says he doesn’t think Laszlo likes him. Sean tries to connect with the kid and asks what he likes to do. Colin likes to make holes in the walls. Sean is a little alarmed and asks if only likes to hit the walls and not people. 

Sean has fun drinking and telling scary stories about the Jersey devil. Nandor and Laszlo look scared, but Colin isn’t sure the Jersey devil exists. He asks Sean what the devil looks like. Later in an interview, Nandor and Laszlo reveal that the vampires made up the Jersey devil to explain all of the dead bodies in the woods. Laszlo says Sean may be his best friend but doesn’t realize when he’s being messed with. Nandor is bothered that Laszlo said Sean was his best friend.

Laszlo sends Sean to bed. When he gets back, Laszlo insults him saying he hasn’t seen battle in a long time. Later, Nandor confronts Laszlo about the comment. The two start bickering again. Nandor is bothered that Laszlo is not bothered. He calls him selfish and Laszlo pulls a gun on Nandor. They argue about how Laszlo picked his room before everyone else despite their agreement. 

Laszlo tries to call Nandor a jabroni and the gun goes off. It doesn’t hit Nandor, so he calls Laszlo a jabroni. Laszlo keeps shooting and Nandor moves quickly to avoid getting shot. A bullet ends up going through Nandor’s hand. The gun shots wake up Sean and he discovers that Baby Colin is missing. 

HOME ALONE

Guillermo is home alone on What We Do In The Shadows

Nadja, Nadja-doll, the Guide (Kristen Schaal), and Marwa the Relentless (Parisa Fakhri) hang out upstairs in the basement, having a great time. They decide to watch Mama Mia. Meanwhile Guillermo is downstairs decorating the dining room. He invited his family to dinner for the first time. They wonder how he can afford a great house. Guillermo told them that he works for the railroad.

Nadja needs more to drink and goes downstairs to find Guillermo and his family eating dinner.  Guillermo tells his family that Nadja is his girlfriend who lives with him … and his maid. The family insists that she join them. Nadja is having a great time getting to know Guillermo’s family. Guillermo’s grandmother pulls him aside and warns him that Nadja is a vampire. She senses it and is ready to kill the blood sucker. 

Nadja is having a blast with Guillermo’s family. She starts telling a story and they all get agitated. Grandma De La Cruz stands up with a piece of wood in her hand. She heads toward Nadja and the family follows her. They chase Nadja through the house, with Guillermo following closely behind, trying to stop them. 

Guillermo fesses up that Nadja is not his girlfriend and does not work for him. He works for her and two other vampires. Guillermo confesses that he wants to be a vampire too. And he’s gay. Guillermo’s family says they already knew he was gay. That’s not the problem. The problem is that he wants to be a vampire. 

LIVING ON A PRAYER

While they look for Baby Colin Robinson, Laszlo apologizes for hurting Nandor. He is just bothered by Nandor lately. Nandor says he’s bothered too because they don’t have ‘guy time’ anymore. Laszlo feels the same.

They hear the iPad and run to find Baby Colin Robinson. He says he left because he heard something outside. He didn’t tell them because they were too busy fighting about jabronis. They hear Sean scream and take off running. The Jersey devil has Sean in his clutches. 

Laszlo grabs his flute from the car and starts playing music. It soothes the devil until the devil can grab it and destroy it. The devil grabs Laszlo and Nandor runs to save him. Sean runs into the cabin to grab his gun, while Baby Colin Robinson tells Siri to play New Jersey music … aka Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer. The vampires continue to fight off the devil as he tosses each of them aside and starts singing and dancing. BAT! Laszlo flies to the devil and returns to human form. He bites the devil, killing him. Sean returns just in time to shoot himself in the foot. 

Nadja decides to hypnotize Guillermo’s family so she can kill them. Guillermo pleads with her not to kill them, just to make them forget. He calls her family too and Nadja changes her mind. Only because she doesn’t want him leaning on her if his family is dead. She also asks that Guillermo clear out the house one night a month so she can have the house to herself. And buy a copy of Mama Mia 2: Here We Go Again.

Nandor and Laszlo behead the devil and take it home, forgetting about all of their issues. When they return from Pine Barrens, they mount the devil head on the wall. Next to Guillermo’s My So Called Life poster.
