Highlights:

  • The new trailer for What If…? season 2 puts an emphasis on the Die Hard-inspired holiday episode, “What If… Happy Hogan Saved Christmas.”
  • A new episode of the series will be released daily on Disney+, starting on December 22 and ending on December 30.
  • Classic characters from the first season will return, including Captain Carter and the Watcher.

In a trailer that borrows the tune of the classic carol “The 12 Days of Christmas,” Disney+ is touting nine days of new What If…? season 2 episodes. With an emphasis on the Die Hard-inspired holiday episode, “What If… Happy Hogan Saved Christmas,” it’s clear ’tis the season for What If…?

What If…? Season 2

The What If…? season 2 trailer opens with the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) addressing Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell). He tells her one of his favorite stories is a Yuletide tale. Meanwhile, what looks to be Yggdrasil appears but decked out for the holiday season.

While the song covers only four of the “12 Days,” the trailer makes the most of them. First is “12 Hulks a-smashing.” Everybody loves Hulk. Next is “11 Howards quacking.” Considering how much more Howard the Duck we need in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is good news. Next is “10 rings a-glowing,” an excellent reference to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Finally, there is a nod to “nine new episodes,” referencing the nine fresh episodes in What If…? season 2.

This is worth its own lyric. Not only are we getting a new season of What If…? before 2024 arrives, but we’ll be able to enjoy it on a daily basis. This is thanks to a daily release schedule for the show’s sophomore season, which will ensure we have fresh MCU throughout the holidays.
