With Pokémon: Detective Pikachu gearing up for release, star Ryan Reynolds shared a new teaser on YouTube for fans to watch. Set to Louis Armstrong‘s “What a Wonderful World”, we get to experience a bit of what life would be like if we shared it with Pokémon. Frankly, it would be wonderful.

The trailer starts with Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) walking through a forest with an unconscious Pikachu. There are Charmanders’ frolicking through the trees, Squirtles’ peaking up from the water and Bulbasaurs’ leading the way. We then cut to the busy streets of Ryme City where humans and Pokémon exist side by side in the busy metropolitan. A flying Pokémon delivers a satchel to a crane operator, a Pangoro takes a rest at the mall with their children, and a Psyduck gives his new friend Pikachu a very big hug. The trailer ends with Pikachu and Tim having a moment where Pikachu tells him that if his Dad were here he’d “hug [Tim] so hard this [his] bones would pop”.

The teaser let the viewer experience the world in a whole new way, giving a sense of awe. Yes, our world is beautiful and yes, if Pokémon were to inhabit it too, we’d have an even more wonderful world. While it’s pretty obvious this was made for Earth Day, it was still a really nice teaser. Definitely makes the anticipation for the film harder.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu roams to theaters on May 10, 2019.
