Welcome to this week’s installment of Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week, wherein we spotlight strong women and nonbinary folks who inspire us. This includes fictional characters in geeky media and creators as well. They are a prime example of empowerment and how crucial it is for youth to have said example to follow.

Bridget
Fast Facts:
Bridget is the female lead of The Bitsy Artist’s mystery WEBTOON series Nonesuch. At the beginning of the series, she is on her way home with her fiance Connor when they are forced to pull over so the dog Trudy, can use the bathroom. What they didn’t expect was to find themselves smack down in the middle of the weirdest town in the USA. Bridget is almost instantly separated from Connor and forced to face off against mysterious clones until an even more mysterious woman named Shannon comes to save her.
Bridget spends her nights locked up in Shannon’s cabin and then her days searching the town for Connor. But, as she moves about town and interacts with the clones, they become more and more like Bridget and Connor. Everything from how they act to what they like. Bridget needs to do everything in her power to overcome her struggles, find Connor and get them as far from Nonesuch as humanly possible.

The Real Deal:
Bridget is the real deal. She is an utter badass and determined to make it out of Nonesuch alive with Connor. Through flashback episodes, we get a glimpse at Bridget before the series’ events. She is still her determined and tough-as-nails self, but we also see another side of her. Bridget has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a disease that affects connective tissue. With Bridget, it affects her knees, and we know that she has watched her mother suffer from the same thing. But she doesn’t let it keep her down. She’s human, of course, and it does get to her, but as she navigates through Nonesuch, she keeps putting one foot in front of the other.
Why She Matters:
So, why does Bridget matter? In Nonesuch, she leads one-half of this mysterious journey. After her initial freak-out over having to strangle a clone of herself to death, she gets her head straight and thinks her actions through. Bridget is willing to get up every morning and head back into the thick of it to test new theories. She also struggles with a disability, and while we do see how it affects her, it doesn’t make her any less of a badass. In fact, it makes her feel more human. WEBTOON series like Nonesuch have done a terrific job of giving us strong female characters to look up to and understand.
So, be like Bridget. Be an unapologetic badass, determined to see things through until the end and don’t let the things that might make life complicated hold you down.
