We are less than a month away from the next series in the WEBTOON x DC collaboration! Following in the footsteps of Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, the new series VIXEN: NYC will bring us a new story from within the superhero universe. WEBTOON and DC have graciously given us a sneak peek at the upcoming series to help get us excited (as if we need any more reason to be).
VIXEN: NYC follows Mari Jiwe, a girl who grew up in a small seaside town in North Carolina. She spent her summer after high school visiting and connecting with extended family in Ghana. There, she receives a mysterious totem that has been passed down for generations. After that summer, she moves to NYC for college and finds that she hates it. The city is smelly, dirty and full of even dirtier animals. Mari finds it safer to stay holed up in her room.

During one of those nights, she finally takes a good look at the totem and inadvertently releases its magic. Mari is hit with the energy and it gives her the power of the animal kingdom. Well, the animal kingdom of New York. Not that new powers aren’t hard enough to navigate alongside college, but Mari learns that women who look unusually like her are being kidnapped from around the city. Now, Mari has to deal with an estranged and distant relative looking to claim her power for himself.
The first look for VIXEN: NYC is promising. The story written by Jasmine Walls, brought to life by Manou Azumi‘s style, can be felt throughout and just adds to our excitement. Just seeing Mari tap into her rat abilities is going to be fun to explore in the full series. We’ve dropped two of the images down below for your enjoyment!
