Oh this is exciting! According to Variety, we have a star for the upcoming reboot of Spawn. Academy Award winning actor Jamie Foxx has been cast as the lead in the film! The creator, director and writer, Todd McFarlane, confirmed the casting to the site.
The first Spawn film debuted in 1997 starring Michael Jai White as the anti-hero who makes a deal with the demon Malebolgia. Being a servant of hell, the former Marine is returned to Earth to serve as the leader of their army. McFarlane has been vocal about taking over the production after the 1997 film including a sequel. So it’s been 2 decades but he’s finally got his Spawn film off the ground!
Jamie Foxx is an incredible actor and is very familiar with the comic book films, having recently portrayed Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man. I’m a big fan of this casting. I’m not sure why, but I’ve always thought of Foxx as a clean, family friendly actor. And this film is the exact opposite so we’ll see how he does!
What do you think of the casting? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more comic book movie news!
